Received sms alert malfunction — Nokia 7610 and 6670

Recently i have been encountering a strange problem with my 6670: i receive sms messages but the phone does not beep to alert me of them. My settings in profiles are configured for ringing when message received. Whenever i reboot the phone, it goes back to ringing for a few messages and then reverts back to the muted response. The screen light doesnt even go on as it normally should. Additionally, the box that displays missed calls and messages received does not appear, which means that i need to go into the menu in order to notice the small looped arrow to indicate that i missed a call, or look carefully at the small envelope sign to see that i have received a message. Vastly annoying I hope you'll agree!

What, pray tell, can be done to cure this?

Yes i also sometimes experience that with my 7610. But it also doesnt show a miscall box when the miscall is too short. Otherwise it happens after i c 'app closd main'

I have had only one instance of an incoming sms showing up in the log and not in my inbox. I browsed and browsed the \system\mail folders but could not locate it. Since it has not happened again, I have put it down to Nokia/Symbian eccentricities and left it at that.
