Greetings every one,
I recently bought a N-Gage QD (yes, yes, I know fire away.)
I was wondering if any one could tell me if there are hardware changes or just OS changes that provent it from playing MP3 (I don't see why you would need hardware to play mp3... but with cellphones ya never know...)? Also I read that the Radio was STREAMED and not hardware Tunner based is this true?
I've found very little in the world of devices that can't be changed via software unless the hardware is spacificly designed to stop it (In some cases, that can even be worked around... Xbox, PS2 for example.)
I'm hopping to find some workaround through os modification and/or software development that will allow people to do the followig on the N-Gade QD:
- Play Mp3 as ringtone (possibly other formats such as AOG...)
- Play Orginal N-Gage Radio (If its streamed, and not hardware tunner based.)
- Find a way to allow smart use of MMC for messages (if message has attachment its saved to MMC, otherwise saved in device.)
There are a host of other things that could be done if those things can be acomplished... I'm just wondering more about the Symbian OS it self and am going to read into it.
Mostly just posting this, because I stumbled apon this forum a few days ago and you guys might care, and/or already have somthing like this going on.
The original N-Gage has a hardware based FM radio receiver and DSP (digital signal processor) for stereo radio and MP3/AAC playback.
The QD lacks these, so you can't get FM radio functionality nor stereo MP3 playback (with software apps sucha s MP3Go, UltraMP3 and Read-M you can get mono MP3 playback, though).
My experince is that using software buffer (not sure if there is enough memmory and/or processor power on the n-gage for this) can compensate for lack of DS processor for the MP3/AAC playback...
Due to the facty I have neither a MMC reader or Bluetooth on pc (Which I'm hopefully geting blue tooth some time today.) I've been working on trying to figure out a way to get sterio sound out of the N-gage QD... I relize that it is incapable of transmiting 2 singles (left and right) at the same time.
However, either converting the singal coming out of the N-gage to the headset speaker could be converted to digital befor being sent out and have a 3rd party device convert it back into 2 channel analog, or simply use the digital singla.
or
Could posibly displace the right channel in another frequency range, I do not know the mp3 frequency range off hand, but you could send left channel as normal and right channel as a frequency higher then posible over left and have an Analog device (Simi-Complicated resister work...) convert it into 2 signals.
If any one has any comments on this subject please go ahead and post your ideas. Or if you just want to call me a quack or somthing go for it... I don't really care...
