I am trying to sort out my SMS's into folders and I wanna store these on the external MMC cards but i can't figure out how to do this. I know that persons with the 9210 who used to store there important SMS's on the MMC card so it must be possible also on th 9500.
Does anyone know how to create SMS/email folders on the memory card and store messages there?
Regards
Jass
Hi Jass,
I think this is possible (haven't tried though). Here are the steps:
1. Go to Messages -> Inbox
2. Hold the Shift key and use the d-pad to select the messages you want to move to another folder
3. Once you have selected the files press Ctrl+M (or Menu -> Edit -> Move) and choose a folder to move them in.
Hope this works.

Hi,
I have been able to sort out my SMS's into different folders as you have described. What i meant was that i want these SMS Folders to be stored on the MMC card as opposed to the phone memory, and thats what i cannot figure out.
yup ive been looking to do the same. i want my 9500 to store all my incomming sms's & existing sms's on the MMC & not the phone. is that possible?
Talking to 9210 users, one is able to store sms msgs on the MMC as apposed to the phone memory by going to menu, storage options.
The ability to do this is a key requirement for me having a communicator ( I send several thousand SMS a month for business and need to be able to organise and store these)
I hope there is a way to do this. Can anyone shed some light?
Wish you all a great new year...
Jass.
i guess nokia thought that with the limited memory in the nokia 9210 people would buy a MMC & store there SMS's etc on that, including All_Nokia_Memory_Card.sis. But now with the nokia 9500's ample memory thsi should not be a problem for atleast 99% people (i think) but yes there would be a few people who would yet love this option, i know i would.
nothing can be done bout this , till maybe an upgrade in firmware or some 3rd party application.
Hi everyone,
I've been trying to use the mmc to store all my sms's but it seems impossible!! It was kinda usefull because when i took my phone for up-grades or repaires i just took away my mmc and all my sms's were safe! I guess we'll just have to wait the next up grades... 😡
Has anyone noticed that when you send sms's from the phone side,if you put in the phone number instead of searching it in the contacts, the phone will not recognize the number... :con?
Strange...
Now that I put an MMC in my 9500, I just realised that what I suggested earlier on doesn't work. Sorry Jass.
A pretty easy way to store your sms's on the mmc is to go to Tools then Backup, New Backup and select partial backup. Still, it's disappointing one cannot set the phone to save sms's on the mmc.
I heard a new firmware should be out in the next few weeks (probably when the 9300 comes out). Don't know how reliable this info is but it seems likely as 4.44 has been around for 2 months already and quite a few bugs have been identified. A function like that might be included in the new version.
In some other forum they are talking about a new firmware release for the 9500 due within the next 10 days.
As you said that is probably around the same time when the 9300 will come to the shops. First indications talk about 14th to 24th of January.
Hop so..! :con?
Why couldn't the technicians that studied the 9500 think before reliesing the 9500??!!
If they didn't notice these things before, how do we expect them to fix them in the new firmware? Is someone suggesting them? Do they keep in touch with ppl of this forum? Do they read these threads?
Thanx..
I think Nokia, just as any other serious company, is monitoring popular forums to see how their products are doing. AAS, along with a few other sites is definitely one of these. On top of that, there are forum members that know Nokia employees on a personal level as they (used to) work in the telco business. I think we will see quite a few things getting fixed in the next release and my guess is that we will be able to have our communicators flashed by mid-february. Please note that I am merely *guessing* here.
Thanx for he explanation Neo! 😉
BTW...
On my 9500 the post box icon in my message section is crossed out. There is a "/" on it. Does anyone know what it means?
Thanx...
mine too. i was also wondering what it was...its on the right top corner. its a " \ "

Hmm..it's only crossed out when you're offline (no connection to your mail server). So, for example, if I connect to my Yahoo Mail via WLAN I get a regular icon for the postbox (without the "\"😉, in that moment also my SMS Inbox has the same icon, but when I disconnect from my Yahoo Mailbox (go offline) it get's crossed out (also the SMS Inbox icon). It seems that it means that in that moment you're not synchronized/connected to your mailbox, but why is it crossed out for the SMS Inbox that is the question? (I don't have to connect to my SMS Inbox in order to get SMS messages😊)
regards,
hery
Yes,infact! I agree with you!!! Who knows... :con?

Most business users like myself do keep quite a lot of incoming faxes on the 9500 and faxes suck up storage quite rapidly, unlike text messages where they are usually very small.
I certainly do hope that the next firmware will address this issue/need. This flexibility should be regarded as a plus point and Nokia should not have removed it.
