A1000 on 3UK
On the A1000s home screen exist the information snacks ... is it possible to customise these?
I have found snack.ini (c:\system\apps\now\) but decided to browse the web before editing only to find that changing them is extremely risky (can only replace characters, not add or remove string lengths, etc"
Bit of a bummer really as I don't use two of the three that 3 have provided.
Believe that this may be the same as the A925 but still couldn't find out any extra info.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Regards
With regard to the "information snacks", would it be possible to delete it? I am in the U.S., and have no need for "snacks" since I'm not on the 3 network. Will deletion of the snack.ini file (or any file associated with that function) result to anything possibly devastating?
Thanks!
not sure what deleting it does but from what i've read - the increment or decrement of strings in the .ini file stops the whole page loading and the phone fully booting correctly
- guess removal of the file could be bad if its that sensitive
Aha. I was wondering how you changed that stuff on the startup screen. Where do you find information on how to edit the config file? How about we compare our snack.ini files - I am using 3 in Aus so mine is bound to be different from yours. I have changed the extension from ini to txt so it can be posted.

Since I bought mine from Australia, my snack file has the same info.

wonder where default1.gif is stored (and 2 and 3)
I am also looking for a way to change this. I wouldn't bother looking to manually edit the ini file though, there must be a software way to do this.
Has anyone looked on the UIQ site??
This is more than likely going to be a feature that Motorola provided, but Three locked down for their handsets so unlocking this feature shouldn't be too hard with the right tools....
There's a german app called A92x Startseite Men 1.3 that does all this for you with a nice GUI.
I can't speak a word of German, but I managed it within minutes with this software, very simple point and click.
You can change colours, pictures, text, links etc. and it generates safe files for you and compiles the images in to the required image file.
This app appears to have been written for the earlier Motorolas, but it's just worked on my A1000 a few minutes a go. :icon14:
I've had a look on Google and several forum sites that talk about this A92x Startseite Menu or A92xmenu program but I cannot find a download link.
Lala, can you pls tell us where you got the program from?
i too am struggling to find a download link.
help would be much appreciated, thanks
I have tried to find the site again, but can't at the moment.
I will keep looking and if I can't find it I can send it to you.
Found it!
The download link is http://www.umtslink.at/master/download_db.php?file_index=260
But you will have to register first and then log in. Once you are logged in it will take you to a download menu, but if you want to go directly to that file only, click the link above again once registered and logged in.
If you need help with this program then either PM me or post here. 😊

That was a bit of a nightmare to even register not understanding a word of it. Eventually I worked it out...
Here to make you guys life easy do this:
Click on the link above, when prompted for username and password use this:
ez2remember
password
It will log you into my area, leave the browser window open.
Switch back to this page and click the link again and the download should start.

made typo error when registering.
Instead of the snacks pointing to websites, is it possible to make the (new) snacks point to programs on the phone and that way use the snacks as shortcuts?
(Here's hoping...!)

Not too sure.
The snacks are meant to be used with URLs, but if you could get it to open an app via the URL you provide and not try to open it in the browser then it could work.
I am doubtful though.
Best thing, try it and let us know how you get on. If it doesn't work, the worst that you will get is a message saying it's unable to find the page you specified (or similar).
Let us know how you get on.

How did you manage this software? I created snack.ini and put in c:/system/apps/now but nothing changed after reboot 😞 Also this software gave me an error when I try to create snack.sbm file... 😞
Please give some instructions on how to use this software, please...

I had that problem when using thsi on Windows XP, but I found that it's because it can't handle the long names format that XP uses (bad programming?).
To get around the error I change the path of the program to be c:\moto\ instead of c:\documents and settings\........ etc. as c:\moto is short without any spaces and doesn't cause any problems with long or short name formats.
Try copying all the program, files and directories to a directory like that and keep it short like moto. Too many letters or any spaces and it will have issues.
Once you've done that it should sort the problem you have with the phone too as it should create more than the .ini file. There should also be another file that needs to be transfered with it.
Let us know how you get on.

Thank you very much. It really helped with all my problems. :icon14:
Thank you once again.
I moved the Snack generating app to the root of C:\ and renamed it A1000 and it created the MBM files correctly. (It is a long filename problem).
I tried pointing to a filename by inputting this info:
Contacts
Manage address book
Z:\System\Apps\Contacts\Contacts.app
After rebooting the A1000, when I clicked on the info snack it proceeded to download the file.
Pity :icon13: , because it would've been nice to change the snacks to something besides browsing content. Having them as shortcuts to apps would've been cool.
If anyone finds a work around - let us know!!!
Because the snack bar didn't like the links to the apps, here are my three snacks:
Account Summary
Last bill
http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/invoiceSummary.do
Airtime remaining
Amount of minutes remaining
http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/postPayFreeUnits.do
3
Three Services
http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/3g/uk/paragon/grid/live
It is very nice having that feature close at hand to find out how many minutes are remaining on my monthly limit.
I am using Three in the UK.
Nice choice and similar to mine.
I put Google in my last one, for when I am browsing the internet in bed via Bluetooth.
It's a lot better than being stuck with Three's predefined snacks though and such a shame that we have to resort to this level of messing about instead of a nice feature to alter the items included with the phone itself!
Hi Guys,
Ive been viewing this thread and proceeding as you all say, but have come across a problem, which could just be me being dumb.....
So I have changed the pics by copying the nowsnack.mbm file across, however it is the content Im more bothered about. I want exactly the same links as Icon Boy. I cut and pasted them into the A92 prog but they havent gone across. Im assuming there was no file to copy as the only one which came up in the output file was the mbm file. Is there another way to change these links, or have I missed something? And did you also find that the colour od the bars doesnt seem to change either.....?
Cheers!
Matt
There should be two files produced that you copy over to your phone.
If you have only copied one over then that's why your links and bar colours haven't changed.
The only time I got just the one file produced by the sofware was when I encountered a similar error to the one detailed by another user above and I posted a fix for that. Have you checked to make sure that's not affecting you?

When you say you tried pointing to a file name what do you mean exactly? Where did you do this? At what point?
Thanks a lot!
Matt
I would suggest you make sure your A925 program is in a root folder on your drive and that you don't have long filenames. I read about this and it created the mbm file okay for me.
Are you in the UK? These settings worked for me because I went to the Services menu when I pressed the triangle key. I then went to My 3 and clicked on the account thingys. Once I was on each page, I selected Page properties (I think that is what it was - see the menu for options) and copied the URLs from there.
Yours may be slightly different if it is not working.
Any other 3 UK users use those links I posted and they worked?
You will need to reboot your phone for the changes to take place.
Hope this helps!

If you are getting just the one file produced then I would suggest you make sure you are not experiencing the same issue as the one above.
If this is not the case and this doesn't help then post back and I am sure we can help you out.

Ok Im gonna give it a shot again now!
Thanks for your help......
Right just did exactly that.
I created a moto file in my C:\ directory on my PC went through the wholse program procedure. It created a file called now_snack.mbm and the onlyo ther file in the output folder is a configuration file. Is the configuration file the .ini file? it doesnt end with .ini
just to make sure I am doing this correctly. When you mention the c:\ root you mean on the PC right and then transfer by copying the files and going into the internal memory browser and placing in the apps\now file right?
Cheers! 😊
Right Im being a complete phool! I know where I was going wrong. the .ini file doesnt actually show up as .ini it is simply the configuration file called snack!! Thanks loads for your patience and help it has worked now!!!
Cheers! :icon14:
