Nokia 6600 vs. SE K700

hi,

i really like the symbian os, especially series 60 ... but now that i'm trying to decide which phone to buy i'm having trouble.

the SE k700 looks like a great phone, and I can't seem to find anything it lacks with the exception of the expandable memory, which is not an issue for me.

what are some things about the Nokia 6600 and symbian that i might have overlooked? is there something about this phone that makes it much better than the SE k700?

any help would be appriciated, and i'm having a really tough time deciding.

thanks.

The expandable memory will be an issue to you, too, if you start installing applications, taking photos, storing music, receive and want to keep many messages, etc.

The ability of having more functional and feature-rich applications is what you'll be missing (the list of such applications is easily very long 😉 ).

The ability of launching and running many applications simultaneously and swiching between them (while they keep running and while they keep their state, if they're not doing anything particular in the background) is something you won't have on the k700.

And, of course, if there is fast 3G or EDGE network services you can take advantage of, then phones like the 6620 (USA, with EDGE) or 6630 (EDGE + 3G/WCDMA) give you network speeds you will appreciate for browsing, email, downloads, etc.

Also, on Series 60 phones (depending on the phone, with either built-in browser or additional apps such as Opera or NetFront), you have - more or less - full web access, whereas the k700 only does WAP.

So, while the k700 is probably (I don't have one myself; I've only read the specs) a very nice "featurephone", it is no match for a true "smartphone", with more or less the same functionality and then some.

thanks for the tips.

any comments on battery life? i haven't used either of those phones, but the estimated batter life on the k700 is much greater than the 6600..

anybody with real experience?

one other thing..

the k700 has a full address book with multiple number, email, and street address.
is there anything with this functionality for a 6600?

i will be syncing this phone with my mac address book and ical.. and i would love a phone that would replace my palm for 90% of functionality, since i'm not really using my palm any more.

I have a k700i now after owning a 6600 for a year,

With regards to the address book, the 6600 has the same the same functions as k7.

I dont know where you read about the k7 having a better battery life,as its well spoken about as not being great in this area, its not too bad, but i used to get an extra day from my 6600 (2-3 k7 vs 3-4 6600).

The memory issue for me isnt a problem as 41mb internal memory in k7 is plenty, especially as it supports mp3 ringtones from the box ,unless you get a vodafone one,(more on that if you want it).

K700i advantages to me :

1: Much better looking and smaller than 6600
2: Superior screen quality,6600 is bigger physically but 176x208,K700i=176x220
3: Its Stereo and the speaker is much better quality and louder
4: Firmware upgrades online
5: Built in stereo radio/mp3 player (which sound superb with the included headphones)

I think thats about it really, but remember, these are all the things important to me and the 6600 advantages could be endless, depending on your needs as N/A stated above.

Also remember that the 6600 is fairly old now and if it was between 6630 and K700i it would be a different ball game.

Post back your decision when you have made it,or fell free to ask any more questions.

😊

the reason i'm not really considering the 6620/6630 right now is because they are not supported by iSync on mac.. and that's my main reason for wanting a new phone.

thanks for all the tips. it's nice to see both sides of the argument.

according to http://www.apple.com/isync/devices.html only the 6600 is supported, not the 6620/6630 .. i heard that something in the phones changed the way they sync, and isync hasn't bee updated yet to work with them.
