Right been looking but can't seem to find any real good info on this.
Can some one tell me what is the diff with edge and 3g.
I take it edge is not 3g?
And the n9500 does not have 3g only edge?
Egde / 3G
EDGE - Enhanced Data Rates For Global Evolution , it's a basically a fast internet connection
where u can download data at very high speed as compared to gprs .
for ex. In other words u can say edge is a broadband connection where gprs is a dialup.
3G - Third generation , it's speed almost same as edge , in addition u can make video call's .
yes 9500 h've only edge.
EDGE data rate is 384kbps while 3g -aka UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)- is 384kbps-2Mbps. I read somewhere that even with EDGE you can stream videos well enough. EDGE is an enhanced radio modulation technique for GSM that is combined with GPRS to reach this kind of speed.
On the practical level, while you can use EDGE (also dubbed 2.75G) with your regular 2G sim card, 3G requires a different sim card called USIM.
There's alot of misinformation is this thread.

Not true. EGPRS (EDGE) (Class B, Multislot class 10) - Maximum download 236.8kbps; upload 118.4kbps.
EDGE is used on the same network as GRPS, the only difference you get is a bit higher speeds.
while 3g -aka UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)- is 384kbps-2Mbps.
Maybe in theory, but not on current networks. The maximum speed is 384kbps download, 128kbps upload.

My collegue in Romania did a speedometer test for this forum just now. Speed of CDMA 1x EVDO was 656.48 Kbs/sec Defenitely more than the 384.
When I am in Romania I sometimes make 800 Kbits. CDMA EVDO will even be faster in the short future, but this 6 to 800 is superfast to me.
The 1x is indeed much slower, but the advantage is : You have for 40 dollars/month a coverage in the smallest rural area. And in the cities this EVDO, which was never UNDER 384.

In very large and poorer areas now you see CDMA growing.
I wish I had it in the Netherlands also . Here you pay by bit for GPRS. Unaffordable by me.
So... no much misinformation Raven! 🙄

On what phone are you able to achieve that kind of speed?
On WCDMA 2100 the max speed is 384kbps.

There are also phones available, but we are talking internet.
The Z010 is the latest of the latest, I think on the market for only three months.
