GPRS Bluetooth hiccups with TomTom Navigator 3

I'm using a Dell Axim x50v Pocket PC device and I have successfully set it up to browse the Web and collect email using my Sendo X as its GPRS modem, connecting between the two via Bluetooth.

I'm now running TomTom Navigator 3 satnav software on the x50v, which gets its GPS data via Bluetooth as well from a separate (Fortuna Clip On) GPS receiver.
TomTom Navigator 3 has a subscription traffic alert option that updates itself from the Internet. I can usually get an initial update but future connections fail. The phone apparently doesn't detect the x50v's Bluetooth connection. The rather unsatisfactory solution is to reset both the phone and x50v.

I'm using Orange (Value Promise Virgin tariff) GPRS bundles. My Sendo X is about 6 months old and I haven't yet updated the firmware - could that be the problem? All suggestions gratefully received!
