I have recently upgraded my 7650 s/w in singapore. But i found that v3.16 tends to hang my phone more frequently than v3.12.
Eg: there is once when someone called me and i couldn't press the phone buttons to receive the call. my phone just went idle at that time, i pressed all the button but no respond...
Then another incident is i tried to view my "log" data, when i use my joystick press right to view other "tabs" it gave me a fail message, not until i rebooted and everything went smooth again....
Too many things happened to my phone when i upgarded my s/w, if i know that would happened i should have stick to v3.12.
The rule of thumb is that if your current FW is working fine, dont change it! I still have 3.12 and it works just fine for me! I never had problems with the memory bug so far! Everytime I got a message of full memory I was able to delete some pics and everything was fine!

I have 3.12 and it has never worked.
From day one the Hands free headset never worked, the phone wouldnt detect it.
Nokia said it was a firmware problem but couldnt fix it for reasons I wont bore you all with now....
But, despite the fact that I cant use a headset, I wont bother upgrading firmware yet... I value that little bit of memory I will lose FAR more than the headset.
AND I have never had the phone crash for any reason yet.
Am I lucky or unlucky? I cant tell... All I know is its too much trouble to get the 3.16 upgrade at the moment so ill stick with 3.12.
Anyway thats a good hint. I thought of going to the Nokia Center and updating the OS - but ur right, never change a working OS .. 😊 It (3.12)crashes very rarely, and if, then caused by some newly installed software ... only thing annoying that sometimes it gets very slow, for example when opening MMS.

Hey but i thought that upgrading s/w will be better in term of performance wise or other stuff? Or it is only when your phone is not so good then we need to upgrade the s/w?
It sometimes depends on your network! believe it or not in the 3310 they had a bug where the phone switched off by itslef. This was a network issue! My GF used it in greece and it was switching off by itself, in the UK it never did! So if you FW works then do not change it! Of course you have to when the FW is WAY better than the one you currently have and major updates have been carried out!
iam on 3.12 with i have never had a problem with it hanging and iam installing stuff all the time 😃
I'm on 3.16, installing staffs etc.. never experienced any hangs. 😊
