Slow Wi-fi Internet

Hello,

I've been playing around with my shiny new 9500 and have been trying to connect it to my wireless network. I'm running a Netgear DG824 which is currently working perfectly with all my other computers but when I connect my 9500 (and it does connect) the connection speed on the phone seems to be almost as slow as GPRS. I've had a look at the signal strength monitor whilst it's running and it seems that the 9500 is picking up the signal for a few seconds and then dropping it then reconnecting etc...

Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this?

Thanks...

Increase your cache size in opera to something like 10meg, should speed things up for you:

Web
Menu
Tools - Settings
Go to Advanced tab
Set maximum cache size to 10240kb
Click done

Let us know if it works.

The problem is not that the wifi is slow, but it's the webbrowser.

Increasing the cache is a good tip though.

so the browser is slow and we need to replace it w a 3rd party browser?

if so, wat are good freeware browsers out there?

None at the moment

No. It is the rendering that may be a bit slow on heavy web sites, not the actual download/upload speed.

Not quite true. The problem with the 9500 is that the processor in the device is just way too weak to manage to keep up with the WiFi and the OS. The Opera devs I have talked told me that Opera on several occations told Nokia that the processor is too weak, but Nokia would not listen...

The unfortunate thing here is that it is Opera that gets the blame when the surfing is slow. This is not Operas fault! The phone does not manage to swallow the data that it gets sent by the WiFi, so this slows down the whole surfing experience. This is also described by "Mr. Kripling", - he describes that the phone seems to drop the line... The processor time is spent just recieving the data - so not much is left to process it...

On some sites it may be a good idea to turn of flash and similar processor consuming processes. This can be done by simply turning of plug-ins (Menu: Tools: Settings: Services😊. Otherwise, blame it on Nokia...
