Thoughts of a 9110 upgrader...

It's crap! Sorry guys.

My problems with the web app -- my primary reason for having the phone -- are in my other thread and I won't bother to repeat them here, only say "if I see 'KERN-EXEC 3' one more time I'm going to throw the smegging thing".

But the even rest of the software doesn't seem to hang together as well as the 9110 apps did. SMS is lumped together with email, using the same app -- and there's no character counter, so you have no idea whether or not you've gone over the limit for a text message. And yes, you can guess fairly accurately, but it's a feature that the 9110 had that my brand spanking new bit of kit doesn't.

No composer!

No telnet!

They seem to have gone out of their way to make the 9210 work LIKE a 9110 when the OSes have absolutely nothing in common. Having used a Psion 5 before, they would have been better off just going with the look and feel of standard EPOC. The 9110-ish overlay just seems a bit clunky at times in comparison to the original 9110.

At least the calendar works pretty much as it always has -- that WOULD have been a disaster if there'd had a learning curve on that! User posted image

Hopefully I'll get used to it and hopefully I won't end up going back to the 9110, but the 9110 just worked and did everything I wanted of it out of the box. The 9210 seems to be going out of its way to give me grief.

1. Text counter can be found by pressing the "Menu" button when typing out a message.

2. There is a ring tone composer available for the 9210, check out Rafe's software guides.

3. Telnet app is available for 9210 - refer to point no.2 for its availability

All I can say is that i've had my 9210 for 4 months and only had to reboot twice, its a tasy bit of kit, that can only improve with age.

Also don't forget that the 9210 is "new". Just like the original 9000 had a few problems and eventually evolved into a 9110, the 9210 is "new" and will someday probably evolve into a 9310, until then new software and improvements are coming out all the time to make things better.

PS Ctrl-M will count the characters in a message.

Why, do you think, they had that enormous delay (close to 1 year) since they presented the 9210 last october 2000? Why it appeared in the market at the end of summer 2001...?
I guess that maybe they had really strong headaches and troubles in developing the comm to reach what they promised in nokia's web page that distant day... maybe they launched the product before checking all the possibilities, and then they realized that mixing between Symbian and the Nokia's phone interface wasn't as simple...
Maybe I'm wrong, but my new comm keeps on making me guess if my life wasn't easier and faster with the 9110...

Hi,

why does everyone think there was a delay in launching the 9210? It was announced in November 2000 and publically stated that it would ship in ist half 2001 which it did!

i was just about to post a thing like this myself. in the last 2days my phones has hung almost every half an hour. im so frustrated, had almost thought of selling it oof & going back to the trustworthy 9110i, but how could one do that, u have a colour screen & so many more apps. i dont know what to do. i think im going to format & re-load everything again. but this is becomming a problem, i cant keep doing it every now & then.

im running 3.54 & the nokia people here in india did not give me a proper 3.62 & had some problems with it.

Any ideas when will the 4.11 be out, i really home that it does, cause otherwise i am seriously considering buying a palm & a smaller compatible phone. But then again the idea of lugging around 2 things does not appeal to me.

Hope they can fix the problems.

ciao
