Internal memory full!

I have a P900 and am suffering somewhat.

Basically the internal (16MB) memory is full. All of my applications are stored on the external card. I have quite a lot of contacts, and about 1200 odd SMS messages. Obviously these do not add up to 16MB (not even a tenth of that) and I assume that the reason it is full is due to the messages being saved as individual small files in little folders which takes up a big chunk of space for each file. Undoubtedly lots of the other programs have left their grubby little config files and directories all over the place.

I have managed to copy of my SMS messages, but I can't seem to be able to delete them from the phone. Select all and delete does nothing, you have to do them in smaller numbers.

Is there any aspect of this phone that actually works satisfactorily!? Presumably everybody has this problem with texts! As far as I am concerned either there is space for 10 texts that you delete when you read them as on Nokias of yore, or you have much more storage that you can archive when you want. What is the point of allowing a lot of SMS messages but then not allowing it to archive them, or making it hard to delete them.

So,

1) who has had this problem before?
2) what can you do about it (by all accounts even if you do get it to delete the messages you end up with much less space on the phone, presumably due to fragmentation.
3) how do I delete the messages?

Counting the days until my contract is up.....

Have managed to delete them from the phone - the problem is that whenever I have a voicemail message I get a little text (but with a SIM Update icon) that says "Voicemail waiting". This message is undeleteable and stays there updating its time until you listen to the answerphone. Nobody else I know on Orange with a P900 gets it. Orange think I'm lying, S-E think I'm mad.

As it is undeleteable I have to select all and go through the 600 odd messages looking for the 2 or 3 of these messages that are still there, and deselect them so that it doesn't screw up the whole deleting procedure.

Anybody else get these little messages? I have voicemail alerts switched off from the menu on 123.

No, you're not mad...I'm on Orange with a P900, and can't delete "system" SMS's like SIM updates and "Voicemail waiting" messages either! Surely there must be a way of deleting them (apart from reformatting the phone)?

Thinking about it, I maanged to delete the original ones, but not since I followed S-E's advice and upgraded my firmware on the S-E site. Wish I hadn't now...wonder if it's a bug with the latest version?

I had a similar problem with my Sony Ericsson P910i (on Orange). For some time I had 2 messages on the SIM (a SIM update and a text message) which I have been unable to move or delete.

In trying to get a Motorola V66 to work, I used my Orange SIM. It listed the 2 messages on the SIM. I tried to delete them and... it worked!

It's hardly convenient to delete rogue messages by temporarily swapping your SIM to another phone, but it did work.

Peeps,

Take the sim out of the P910 and put it into another phone, then delete the sms.

What, every time somebody leaves me an answerphone message!? 😮

Unless somebody else comes up with a better solution, other than master reset - I'm afraid so. 😮 :frown:

There was a new firmware update that might fix it, but I'm not sure how to do it, and I'm not aware if it will delete any personalisations such as ringtones.
