A potential fix for non starting phones

Hi all, I managed to render my phone unstartable recently, by trying to change the startup animations. My phone would say motorola 3g and just freeze when it should have played the motorola anim.

I was going to take it back but I was playing about after reading another post saying other motorola phones had a button that could be held down during startup, to perform some sort of reset boot.

Sure enough if you hold the triangle button down during boot my phone started allowing me to remove the offending animation files!!

hope this helps anyone!

Hows about talking us thorugh how u removed the files then

I'd love to get rid of the startup animation for 3

You see.............im not 12 years old, Having my business phone play that *!%$ when it boots up is embarrassing

I agree, thats why i tried to get rid off them 😉

So once again be warned, holding down the triangle button should start the phone again if it doesnt start, but I havnt done much testing with this. It's possible that u have to create 3 actual mp4 files, I just created 3 txt files and renamed them. who knows. Let me know if you get it working

But where are the originial startup files for the disco three + music located? How was it possible that creating a new folder in C:\documents\startup overrides the original files?

zamv wrote:great, it works.

thanks 😊

So, I created C:\Documents\startup, and copied the three files into it. But somehow, the "customerimage.mp4" file is being recognized as a "directory ".

I can't do anything to the file or its filename.

Any clues on this?

Thanks.

I had no problem with the files i created but i have seen problems elsewhere

So i have put my files onto my server

www.machman.co.uk/a1000/startup.rar

Just extract the startup dir into the documents dir on the c drive and that should be it

A simple step by step can be found at http://www.aussie3g.com/modules.php?name=Forums

goto a1000 section where you will find loads of handy hints.

Just now I read your thread. I created 3 txt files like I think you have done, and I renamed them (with mp4 extension). But my phone freezes in the motorola 3g logo. I tried holding down the triangle button when starting the phone but the phone remaines freezed! What am I doing wrong?
Can you help me please?!

hi !

the instructions i have found have said:

1: make a jpeg-file by taking a picture with the camera, then copy it to:
motostartup.mp4, hutchisson.mp4, motoshutdown.mp.4

2: make directory c:/documents/startup

3: move the 3 files there

you can even use an empty file
