Hello,
I like the look of the sendo x smart phone a lot. I have a few questions I
hope you all can help me with!
As I read in the specifications, by default, the sendo x supports java (j2me)
1.0 - are there any plans to release an upgrage to support j2me 2? Or, if you
are aware of, are there any symbian OS implelentations one could obtain and
install to the phone to get 2.0 compatibility?
I currently own an orange SPV c500 (windows based) and I know of other Java
implementations one can install on the phone in addition to the default one. (Coretek's midp springs to mind - the fastest java implementation apparently).
Speaking of java, does the sendo x support the nokia extensions, so that the
large number of java games out there designed for nokia j2me will work on this
device? Again, this is a current limitation with the spv c500 (no nokia java
support - no /com/nokia/... packages).
And one final thing, again regarding gaming. As this thread on the popular
microsoft smartphone forum details,
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=113971 , there are issues I have
encountered with the spv c500 regarding two simultaneous key presses. For
example, if I push UP and SHOOT in a game, one would expect the game to shoot
upwards. However, in the c500 this is not the case - a factor I have now learnt
to be a hardware limitation, making it pretty poor for mobile gaming. Can you
confirm if the sendo x has / hasn't this problem?
I apologise for the mass of technical questions! As you can see I have done my
research and want to be happy with the phone I finally purchase, and it looks
like the sendo x could be it. Many of the nokia series 60 devices I have seen
dont even have stereo output for the mp3 player but I know the sendo x does.
Many thanks for your help...

Just to point out that I am a new adopter of the X, having downsized from a SE 900, before that I had an Mpx 200 and before that an SPV. I am well used to all of them now. I have had my X for 2 weeks now. During that time it has crashed countless times meaning at some stages a complete hard reset was needed to restart the phone. The series 60 sybian is a now old version of that used by Nokia. A lot of Nokia stuff will not work it. In short I am very, very disappointed
I bought mine cheaply...just as well, as I have deceided I'm going back to the P900 and maybe look at the Mpx or N9300 when I can afford it!
Do you want to buy a two week old unlocked X?
Ive had my X for a couple of months now and i love it. I haven't had many problems and once you get use to the joypad its great for gaming.
I've had an X since August, and I love the phone too!
I consider it *much* better than the SPV C500 (yes, I've got one of them too). The multi-tap problem the C500 has is not present in the X. (by the way, it's not a hardware limitation on the C500, it's a firmware issue - it can be fixed by using a later firmware, although I believe this breaks some other things)
The phone uses Series60 1.2, so any software written for that release *should* work on the X. (software written for Series60 2.0 won't work). I'm not sure whether it's possible to "upgrade" the version of Java on the phone, that question is one for one of the Sendo guys here...

Update is not possible - J2ME is only in Symbian OS 7.0 and higher

Yes. Sendo X supports:
MIDP 1.0 (JSR 37)
CLDC 1.0 (JSR 30)
JSR 82 Bluetooth
JSR 120 Mobile Messaging
JSR 135 Multimedia
and Nokia UI API

No multikeypress is not supporterd, but it is not bug!
