Hi,
as I am an experienced Java Developer (mostly J2EE stuff) I would like to start to develop some applications for my Nokia 9500. So, I decided to make a slideshow app. I will do it with the Personal Profile specification. Basically the application would allow the user to choose a folder, pick up pictures and arrange them into a slideshow. The created slideshow could then be saved and loaded/played/edited when needed. This is the initial scope of the application (currently I'm doing some proof of concepts). Of course it will be freeware (as it is my first application for J2ME).
Any comments and ideas are welcome.
In your sig you say "innovate don't immitate", i feel you would do well to take inspiration from previous examples. For example the ability to automatically play music in the backround that iPhoto has so seemlessly actually enchances the viewing of photos greatly, as opposed to being able to reorder them, set different intervals for each photo, etc. Music playback could be achieved through that java media api thing that the 9500 supports.
It should also work to a deacent standard before new features are added (see example of shoddly designed Mobile NewsGrabber). The render time for the inbuilt imaging application would make a slideshow painful - possibly don't do fit-to-screen on the fly. Also simple things like actually haveing a back and forward button while viewing the slideshow and if possible the ability to keep the 9500 powered on while viewing the slide-show (without screen blanking).
Good Luck, more than willing to beta test.
Good idea - the innovative features you add whilst still getting the basics good the better it wil be.
My suggestions include:
Rather than having to put all the pictures you want to show in one folder it would be better if you can mark pictures from different folders so don't have to move pictures into one folder to play a slide show.
How about the option to use it as a screen saver?
I have always wanted a program that would randomly change my wallpaper everyday or every hour etc. From a list of wallpapers/photos (even better if it could automatically change existing photos wot wall paper size in the background!)
Let us know how you get on!
Cheers
Jago
