Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I'm still trying to setup my email. Signed up with a web based service that offers POP3 and STMP. Entered all details correct and assigning GPRS as my access point. Yet when I try to connect:
General:
System Error,
try again.
Some one help me???
more details plz! Operator, web mail service, GPRS for wap or internet as well?
A friend of mine had the same. According to the nokia servicepoint it was because he had version 3.14 (or 12). So he needed to update his version to 3.16. There are alot of problems with the first version.
I'm in Australia. I have sw 3.14
I'm with Cable & Wireless Optus (not that matters I think)
I'm using WAP over GPRS. I registered with www.hotpop.com which offers POP3 and STMP
Mailbox name: mr6t9r
Outgoing Server: stmp.hotpop.com
Incoming Server: pop.hotpop.com
Maybe this is the problem
for the access point there is a service point called Internet or optus internet, Select that for the access point in the mail setting. Do not select the optus GPRS or GPRS for the mail or you'll get the general error thingy
or maybe u already did this
😃 😃
Indeed, this is the problem, you can't use a WAP access point to get your e-mail, you need a full internet access point that supports all protocols.
I had the same problem, I added an access point specifically for sending pop3 emails. It dials my ISP's local number, which then allows me to be validated on their servers to send email.
The thing that was confusing me, I could receive pop3 emails fine, just couldn't send them through the smtp server.
One thing that I have noticed since then though (while testing both from phone and PC). When you have finished downloading your mail. make sure you select 'disconnect' from the options menu, otherwise your mailbox may be locked out until the other session times out.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Tsu
Have you tried using your dialup account instead of using GPRS? How much memory space left in your phone? General Error could lead to many factor... run out of space, appl's bug or too many appl running in background, wrong setting from your access point, etc.

However, I think that he is using a WAP gateway that does not support internet exchange thus email! Try to use your regular dialup account for your PC and if this works then use this or ask your Network to upgrade your GPRS from WAP to Internet!
I can think of 3 reasons why Tsunami_Hiroshima couldn't send out mail.
1. Some ISPs do not allow their outgoing mail servers (SMTP) to be used by anybody not connecting through their dial-up pool. So if you're using your mobile company's access to the internet, you can't use their SMTP server. You'll have to dial-in to the ISP to do so. Unfortunately this usually means using GSM which is S-L--O---W.
2. Some ISPs have a POP before send policy. So before you can send mail, you have to have your mail client check for mail, even if you don't have any. Again this is to prevent abuse of their SMTP servers.
3. Others (such as Yahoo! if you've signed up for their POP service), require authentication at the SMTP server. Not all clients can support this function, I don't think the N7650 can, but I didn't really try very hard to find this feature; it may be somewhere in there.
Hope this helps.

I set up a pop3 account with hotpop and I just use my defualt O2 wap access point. It's not even GPRS and that works fine.

do you have the free wap thing running on yours with o2? i've got it but to surf the internet i've had to change my gateway to 0.0.0.0 obviously - do you know if this is still free or can they tell? i've tried to limit my online time on the phone cause i don't want a nasty shock when my bill comes. does anybody else have free wap and are using it to surf the internet.
i also had no luck with connecting to my pop3 account. couldn't authenticate me, kept asking me for my username and password even though they were correct. must confess i haven't had much of a play around with it yet though.
okay should really have had a play first, got my mail working fine, sorry!!
if anybody is also on o2 with the free wap, does anybody know if the access through 0.0.0.0 is still free?
also does anyone out there have an o2 email account and know the address of the mail servers? i did have an email with them in but i deleted it, and there is no mention of it on there site.
