transferring mp3 ringtones from OSX

HI there,
I have had a look through the threads and haven't seen this problem exactly, but if it has been answered before, perhaps you could just refer me to that thread.

I have a bluetooth enabled G3 powerbook, and the 6260. It's no bed of roses! But I have these two talking to eachother. Grumpily.

The powerbook connects to my 6260 just fine via bluetooth nowadays. I use the phone to browse the web on the mac. I have used SVCard to get my contacts across. Been there. NOW I'd like to use a couple of snappy ringtones I have cooked up on the mac, on my phone. SO I can use the Bluetooth file exchange app on the mac to send them across, and they arrive in the inbox just fine. The I save them to "My Folder".

Then... well then, nothing happens. I cannot browse the phone successfully from the mac (all I see is root). The file manager on the phone does not see these mail folders. Performing a "find" within the file manager does not find my aforementioned snappy ringtone. So my snappy ringtone stays there, marooned in its message-land sandbox.

How can I get them from my mail folder to my ?ringtone folder?

Thanks in advance
Nicholas
PS is mp3 the best format? If not, what is, and how do I convert, on a mac?

Hi there, Nicholas,
Nicholas here. I found a way to do it. I downloaded the Symbian fileman app to my phone, which gave me a more complete view of the files on the phone, including the messages. From there, I could copy the midi file to where I wanted it. However, this app will only work for 30 days without me paying money, and Symbian do not accept my credit card. Was / is there another way I could do it? Further snappy ringtones await. 😊

PS: Also, still curious about my Previous PS: is this the best format? Seems to work fine.

instead of fileman use fexplorer. it's free 😊 just open it and do a search for *.mp3 on the E drive, copy the file and paste it to whereever 😊

Send the mp3 from your mac to the phone with the "Browse Device..." option. Drag'n'drop your files to the phone. Your phone will now alert you that you have received a new short message.
Press show to open the short message. After the short message has been opened, press "Options" and select "Save". Select phone memory or memory card. Scroll down to "Sound Files", press "Open" and press "Save". Type in a name for the new file and press "OK". Your mp3 is now in your gallery and can now be selected as a ringtone or message alert.

Hi there .it works - thanks .... when I use Fileman, it lists "mailbox" as a drive. So I can just go and find the mp3 easily ... fexplorer does not seem to. But when I search, as you say, it seems to find the file in the C drive, on /system/mail/wierdfoldername and I can get it from there
