Can't use the QD as a phone...

Hi. I recently bought the N-gage QD from a friend who didn't need it. He told me his sim card wouldn't work with the phone. When I tried my sim card, it didn't work either. It "booted" and I got my profile and messages, but when I tried to call something like "no network" popped up. Now, the bandwith is definitely supported, because the one my other phone supports is in the QD's range.

I heard something about unlocking the phone, and that a Nokia support center had to do it; but I think the phone's unlocked, and even if it weren't I don't know if this has anything to with my problem.

Hope this is something that can be solved. Thanks.

OK I tried again... The profile was INDEED in "normal". I tried different profiles; same result.

I can copy the contacts from my SIM card to the N-gage, and everything appears to be normal except that when I try to call the following message pops up (sometimes right away, sometimes it takes a while, but all the same): NO NETWORK COVERAGE.

What is the reason of this message? Does it have anything to do with the phone being locked/unlocked? How do I tell my phone is locked/unlocked? Where does the container that attaches to the back of Optimus Prime come from?

Please... someone help!

As the N-Gage was designed and marketed to be primarily a handheld gaming unit that has the ability to be a phone, it is possible that the SIM card won't work for any service provider. The only reason that "neutral" SIM card is there is for the purposes of using the Bluetooth Technology.

Hi try find out if the phone was found by your friend or if its stolen as if it was the original owner may have blacklisted it, you can try putting a different network sim into it and it might work but other wise when blacklisted the phone is useless and cannot be used

um, well for t-mobile the service i use they lock there phiones so u cant switch to another service provider without unlocking the phone with them, which over here costs like 20 bucks, there just trying to make money, but thats all i can think of. u should ask u friends for his old servie providers number. and see if u can get ur n-gage unlocked. i hope i helped.

its not that the phone is locked thats different and if it was locked the phone wouldn turn on with his sim card in it. when its blacklisted the phone will appear perfectly normal until you try and make a call and your reception will die

Are you absolutely certain? There are two versions of the QD out there, you know, 900/1800 vs. 850/1900... :icon4:
