Couple of 6260 questions...

13 replies · 4,367 views · Started 17 January 2005

Just got my 6260 on Friday and I am very impressed (coming from a SE T610, anything would impress me!).

Anyway - there are a couple of niggles which I wonder if anyone can help with:

(1) Is it at all possible to totally disable the camera button on the side of the phone? I keep hitting it and activating either the camera or PTT, neither of which I need or ever use. Should I ever need the camera then I can start it from the main menu.

(2) Similarly, is it possible to stop the camera application starting when the screen is turned? I know that is the screen is turned quickly enough then the camera doesn't start but (a) sometimes I'm not quick enough, (b) my wife is never quick enough and (c) doing it quickly looks like it could someday break the joint!

(3) Every time I receive a text message, I also get a second "phantom" message that contains no text, but has a "D" with a line through it as the subject....fault on the camera or something to do with my phone company?

(4) Looking for some software and need some suggestions:

(a) A tree-like notepad. Something where I can have notes and sub-notes. Is there anything like that? Anything that can syns with a desktop app?

(b) A check list manager - ideal for shopping lists where a list is drawn up with check boxes just like a to-do list. But no dates or anything needed, and easy one finger operation to mark items as "checked".

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Bryan.

I'm afraid there's no way to disable the 'camera' button nor the 'auto-execute-camera-when-turned' feature. And I thought 6260 has a built-in To-Do list?

Thanks - but the in-built to-list is a more than I need. I tend to jot down ten/fifteen things on a shopping list and want something just to check them off. The to-do list is cumbersome for this. And it means that it's syncing with Outlook - I want to keep my actual To-Do's seperate from a quick, temporary shopping list. Never mind.

Shame about the camera button - I do wonder sometimes who tests things like phones for useability. Overall the 6260 is the best phone I've owned and was very much the best choice for what I want to do, but there are some glaring faults:

Not being able to disable the camera is a right pain. And the silly thing about not being able to take VGA shots unless you want to take the thing next to you. I can't possibly see how rotating the screen can possibly effect the size of an image.

Odd things like the Bounce game....really nice little game, but why on earth can I not play it in Browse mode? Fold the keyboard away and you lose the jump key! I know that's not Nokia's fault, but whoever they outsourced the game to, but even so!

I also wish the keylock didn't turn off everytime I folded/twisted. I have the phone in browse mode, keylock on, I'm happy. I get in the car and put the phone into my holder and the way it's mounted, I need to angle the screen. The keylock turns off, I accidently press the button (including the camera button which is where my car kit holds the phone).

It's just odd little things and I'm not really picking on this phone or Nokia. It's everything - things seem to get to about 95% finished and then released and it's that last 5% finishing touches that really make the difference.

I hear your pain... Nokia 6260 is indeed a nice mobile but I believe the LED is kinda under-utilized. It would be nice if it would blink (and ring) if there's missed calls/messages. And I cannot understand why we cannot take pictures in 640x480 when in camera mode and also why not the view-finder in camera mode be fullscreen? And no daily/repeating alarm too? Not able to configure the 'left', 'right', 'up' and 'down' button for shortcut in standby? I think the built quality is sad... really sad. Maybe we all should write and complain to Nokia on these short-comings.

i get annoyed by this, it really defeats the object of having a camera mode on the phone! :icon13:

if it is a hardware issue, why didnt they (at least try to) mount the camera 90 degrees from what it is now? then we could get better pictures from camera mode, and get the crappier ones from other modes. (would make sense to me)

come on nokia, its not bloody rocket science! :argh:

By default if you press the "Camera" button, it won't do anything except in Camera Mode. However, pressing the "Camera" button for more than 3 secs will evoke the Push-to-Talk application

for applications i would recommend psilocGPS, agilemessenger, control freak, world traveller, bluestreamer and ofcourse smsXtender!

Hello,

I'm new in the 'Nokia World' 😎 and I have a couple of questions 🙄 :

:icon1:

1. When downloading files (MP3) to the mobile it automatically goes to the inbox of the phone, which only has 8MB space. Is there a way to downloading to the MMC instead?

2. How can I move files from the inbox to the MMC?

3. Does anyone know where could I get the game 'Bounce' for Windows XP?

Thanks a lot,

Fernando.

Thank you Rafe!!

I do have the PC Suite. Do i need to connect the mobile to the PC via a serial cable to use the PC Suite and download straight away in the MMC? I've tried with bluetooth and it keeps going to the inbox.

Thank you very much,

Fernando.

Rafe wrote:You can use a program called Forward (more details here http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/viewarticle.php?id=67 for getting things out of the inbox and to the mmc.

No direct way to get stuff the MMC unless you are using PC Suite (the Browse Phone module) or by using a memory card reader (i.e. one you plug in a usb port having taken the memory card out the phone).
