Vodafone firmware update

29 replies · 20,696 views · Started 20 January 2005

Below is an excerpt from a discussion I had with Sendo Support today. I was complaining of another problem but I took the opportunity to ask about the Vodafone firmware situation.

In short the firmware has been written but is still being tested. It will be released via the website asap (timescale to be confirmed).

Discussion follows (most recent message first):

Rest assured we already have a recent firmware update in the approval
process at Vodafone and we are simply awaiting the result of that.

Thank you for your response.

In fact I have now returned the phone to Vodafone.
Sadly they were unable to do a straight swap as they
have now discontinued the phone and have no more
internal stock.

There are a few left on their website so I may buy
another one. However, I am not confident that you
would bother developing new software/firmware for
Vodafone if the take up has been so low on that
network.

Thank you for your enquiry.

1.We are waiting approval from Vodafone for the latest firmware
release. Sendo are continually working with operators/distributors to gain
approval of new firmware. Unfortunately, as the approval process varies
between operators/distributors we cannot provide an accurate timescale.

However, rest assured Sendo will work closely with
operators/distributors to gain the approval as soon as possible. When the new firmware is available it will be posted on our website (including release notes) via
http://www.sendo.com/smartphones/downloads.asp

Hi Tony,

I have an update on this - VodaFone HAVE now approved the software 😊

We will therefore be organising the update for the website very soon.

pk

Thats good news 😊

I have a question though... Now Vodafone doesnt seem to support the phone too well anymore, are they still required to approve software?

So any news on the date when it will be posted ??

Save me having to keep clicking refresh on the sendo X update page. 😡

Alan.

Yeah ive been doing that aswell 😃 Surely it doesn't take long to put it on the server.

Me too, I'm sure their stats are going right up 😃

Whats to stop Vodafone taking another 3 months longer to approve the next software update next time?

Whats to stop them caring at all given (for some reason) they no longer sell it (alledgedly - every Voda shop I go into in London is selling it quite happily) ?

Surely a better thing is for Voda to agree with Sendo to release control and for Sendo to simply issue the Voda update with all the rest.

What do people think?

That would be nice, but I think some contract issues between Sendo and Vodafone might prevent that.

I'd settle for the first Vodafone update, but it seems to be taking forever
and that's more frustrating. Especially seeing as plinkykev has already announced
it's been approvide and will be on the website soon. Come on plinkykev, give us
a clue ! 🙄

Great news! I will be buying a new Voda X in the next few days as my old one had to be returned (dodgy earpiece).

Meanwhile I'd love to hear reports from people who upgrade - what are the improvements?

Ok i have updated my phone with the new firmware and am currently restoring my backup. So far all is well, but ill have to play around with it to see if it works properly 😊

cheeky!

Oh, and don't forget to load up the new themes too, as they can now be installed with the latest software...

Sorry, i didnt mean it like that, i meant just see see if there is noticable differences 😊 And so far the phone actually seems slightly faster and the colours seem more crisp 😃

Which new theme are you referring to? The user created ones a while back or the ones on the Sendo website?

omegax wrote:Which new theme are you referring to? The user created ones a while back or the ones on the Sendo website?

The Sendo website ones. I've not tried the user ones done here, as the install process seemed a bit "fiddly"

They worked on the old firmware also didnt they? I sware i remember trying one or two of them before

SPEEDMAN wrote:will there be another firmware in the future?

Yes, there certainly will be. We are working on a new release at the moment, which will hopefully address quite a lot of issues (big and small). As there is so much to do (and test) in this one, it will take a little longer to get released.

Are Vodafone still going to have to give it the go ahead? If we're honest, they really dont seem to care about software updates for this phone

I think that i can guarentee that every vodafone Sendo user (and most other general users) would gladly sign any kind of petition, or whatever it takes, to give Sendo total creative control 😊

ok, i hope the mp3 problem finally gets solved, and the GPRS gets further improving...

Agreed!!!! The faster the better, if we don't like it we can roll back 😊

Does anyone have the original VF firmware - Just incase this one makes things worse ?

G

i was trying to unlock my sendo x with the unlock codes from voda, but cannot as for some reason it wont allow me to enter p(pause) and wait(w) codes... will the new firmware allow this?

I see nobody's answering, so I'll have a go. I've never had to unlock a phone, so this could be way off the mark, but are you sure that they aren't instructions to the person entering the code, i.e. type this, then wait a bit?

Perhaps you could post the instructions and we'll try to make sense of them.

i found a way round it..

the code was #pw+002233556+1# (not actual digits as it is imei dependant) when trying to enter it in the sendo x i couldnt find the p or w. the manual says to make a call with pausse or wait init store it in the contacts and then edit it. my phone ecit didnt allow me for it.. the solution i found ( i think it works as it allowed a BT sim card) was to enter the unlock on another handset save it as a contact. Blue tooth it over to the sendo x (with voda sim in the sendo x) save it to the contacts and call it.. that seemed to work for me..

i think my firmware needs upgrading but as i am selling the handset i will let the new owner look into it..
thanx

just wondering where to get the vodaphone firmware updates. coz i updated through the sony website and now some fuctions donot work properly like th internet and the music walkman menu, is there anyway to do a roll back.
