I just noticed that when you enable the offline mode, the cover side display is turned off and the radio is turned off. However when you exit the offine mode, the phone does not turn on and the radio is dead till you press the power button on the cover side.
Ideally the phone should turn on automatically on exiting the offline profile

I have a distinct feeling that this feature is designed this way so that you don't switch on the radio equipment by mistake. It could be quite easy to fumble on the keyboard to adtivate radio (albeit a confirmation dialg would confirm it..?) but having to explicitly press the button on the outside requires much more determined effort.
