OK, so it's early days (v0.1 beta!), but I got fed up with waiting for another company to make this application. Automail essentially tells Messaging to go off and 'retrieve email' every so often, so that it's all waiting for you when you open the machine. Sound useful? Then you'll need to help out by beta testing 0.1 and letting me know what you need. See the Automail page

Hehe, I like your initiative, Steve! You don't like using an app with a forced subscription service, so you make your own... Great! I hope you'll keep working on it, because as it stands now it is lacking too many features from MailX to make me switch, but I will be testing Automail though. Thanks.
... Likewise... I'd like an app like this too, but right now it's got a little bit too few features for me to bother... But keep working and I'll test it!
Some features I'd like to have:
- Weekly schedule -
X number of times to collect per day (with alert type visual/sound, I don't want sound when it collects mail before breakfast)
- An on-off for the schedule - If I go on holiday I might want to turn it all off
- A fetch-all-now feature
And probably something to do with connection types.. (Wifi/GPRS/etc)

Actually, it's not so much the bit about paying money, it's more that MailX is a bit of a sledge-hammer to crack a nut, and I do like to keep things simple.
Of course, Automail is a bit too simple at the moment, but come on, I only started programming it at midday today - it's only six hours old! (That's the power of OPL for you)
I'm hopefully (if I get enough interest) going to be making a new version most days this week, so anyone interested should keep popping back to the Automail page.

In that case, I'm even more impressed! 😊

Great, I certainly will. I can also confirm that Automail works fine on my 9300 (v.4.53).
Steve, that's wonderful! / Martin

Now up to v0.3, with (slightly) more configurable scheduling and a few tweaks, including saving your settings.
More later, no doubt.

Thank you Steve; you are someone I look up to about all things Psion/Symbian. I should be receiving my new 9300 (replacement for 5mx and Revo Plus) within the next 5 days or so. I look forward to the maturation of this program of yours. I am happy to pay for it when it is ready.

Steve,
I'm getting the occasional system error that seems to be a caused by Automail (see screenshot attached). It's nothing serious, but it is annoying and only happens when automail has initiated the GPRS connection. The errors I'm getting are within the Messaging application and are usually like this:
Problem disconnectingSystem:
Disconnected
Also, do you have any plans of adding support for multiple e-mail accounts in the near future..? 😊
Thanks.

Any mail system errors must be something in your settings, as all Automail does is kick off the 'retrieve email' function, in EXACTLY the same way as if you pressed it manually. For example, I quite often get back to Messaging to find that there's been some kind of network problem, but it's because GPRS coverage was bad and it would have failed the same way had I pressed the button at the same time.
I've had VERY little interest in Automail, I have to say, I can count the interested users on the fingers of one hand. It's easy to make it do multiple accounts by, say, retrieving email from a primary account on the hour, and a secondary one on the half hour. Is this the sort of thing you want to see?

Well, I'll have to investigate it further, but I've never gotten any such error when I've started e-mail retrieving manually. Maybe MailX is interfering somehow (although it is not running) - I'll uninstall it and see if that helps.

Too bad about the lack of interest... I guess that means you aren't going to work on it much further then? I was hoping for a visual/audible notification of new e-mails being implemented at some point, but I understand of course that the lack of interest can be a motivation killer for further work.
Primary and secondary account retrieval sounds good to me. 😊
Thanks again for your efforts.
Steve,
Pls don't give up on the Automail program. I think there are many who would like to have it but aren't aware of its existence. I received my 9300 but feel like a dunce so far in attempting to exploit its capabilities. I will want Automail (and will be happy to pay) when it is a little farther along and I have sorted out the use of the 9300.
Best regards,

Well, I haven't given up developing it completely. It's just had to be put on the back burner for a while because of other work. Supporting more than one email account is quite easy, I'll do that next.
Steve
I tried to send email out of my g-mail account, but i got a similar error:
Problem sending message
System:
Disconnected
It seemed to go through the regular procedure of logging on to my internet connection, but I got this message as it was trying to send the message.
I suspect it doesn't have anything to do with Automail, but I'm wondering if Raven or anyone else has encountered this problem.
Automail looks great btw, i hope to figure out what's going and send you some money Steve!

It's VERY important with Messaging to set the right SMTP server for your Internet connection. These days, this is usually the SMTP server appropriate to your GPRS connection. In my case Vodafone's smtp.vizzavi.co.uk

Hi Steve,
Just wanted to say the app is GREAT!
I was just curious if there was a way to have a audible notification if new emails are found.
If possible, a way forwards could be storing the number of messages, and every time is executes, see if the difference >= 1. Maybe? 😊
Thanks,
Jay
Hmm..... I suppose that might work if you could get access to Messaging's data store - to be honest, now that OPL is effectively dead 8-( I've had to move on and am busy with other stuff.
Sorry, didn't want to get your hopes up! My code's available if you can find a programmer good enough to make any more changes....
Steve
Hi,
Could I take that code of your hands, please?
Edit: I'll take over with further developments, and host it myself 😊
How come OPL is dead, looks quite interesting to me 😊
Thanks,
Jay
