I've been looking for a decent London map for ages, what with London Street Map not covering enough even with the 400sq.km version and TomTom Citymaps London only covering the centre, when I happened to stumble upon 3rd party map files for TomTom Citymaps that cover the whole London region.
I was well chuffed, only to discover that using the Find function to search for roads crashes the app. The list of names shows up after selecting "Find location by name", but as soon as you select a road the app just quits.
However, I've found this DOESN'T happen when searching for railway stations, only roads.
EDIT: Links removed due to alleged militant tomtom busybodies on the prowl.
If it is indeed the case that the search function is broken and the map is therefore useless, can anyone recommend map software that covers the whole London region and doesn't need a GPRS connection like Wayfinder? Will the full TomTom Mobile software work as an offline map without the GPS box?
Never mind, just found this: http://nokiafree.org/forums/showpost.php?p=329556&postcount=535
Apparently the map I've got is from the 9210 version and thus crashes the app when attempting to search for a street name.
I think I'll copy and paste: can anyone recommend map software that covers the whole London region and doesn't need a GPRS connection like Wayfinder? Will the full TomTom Mobile software work as an offline map without the GPS box?
according to tomtom, this "copy-paste" from my
legal CD of tomtom(i paid 60 euro to get it as i remember)
to my 6600 and not to my 9210 is illegal!!!
thats why my-symbian.com forums delete my account!!!
however, this forum is really more busy and much more
better than them. just know that the links u gave are not good
to give public, man. allaboutsymbian.com will have problems with tomtom
What a bunch of arseholes! You paid the money, what do they care if you put the files on another phone YOU own.
Anyway, thanks for the reply, I've edited my post.
Now back to finding a suitable map application...
By the way, I take it there's nothing that can be done with the 9210 maps to make them work properly on a S60 device?
no u can use 9210 maps, but the find feature is not supported.
noq tomtom doesnt sell old citymaps files, so u have to buy them
from ebay.
tomtom has no problem with my money, the problem was with
my-symbian.com forums and their morons admins.
the only problem with tomtom now is that they want to sell
gps devices for their apps and they dont let other gps units to work.
so i got an email from them telling me to remove a file from my page,
which lets ALL gps devices to work with their programm. i think tomtom
is like bill gates and microsoft copyright shit
