Compatibility of applications?

Hello 😊

I am currently using a Nokia 3650 and i am fed up with it always displaying "Memory full" when i run applications. I never had a phone that needed to be rebooted that often, yet i also never had a phone that could do so many things.

Now i want to upgrade, and the amount of $$ available allows me one of two choices: Panasonic X700 or Nokia 6600.

I know of the Nokia 6600 that it has a whole bucketfull of RAM and the memory issues will be a thing of the past. Also quite all of the applications i am using now will still work, plus some more (themes!!!). I know also that it has a very slow responding menu and it is rather large (yet cute, because it looks chubby, which i like).

Of the Panasonic i know only that it is not *officially* available here in Thailand, yet a few grey market vendors have it. I have had it in my hand actually, and i loved every bit of it, the sizer, the design, everything. But i have a few questions, and the answers i got from the vendor confused me (quite obvious that he didn't know a THING about the phone, beside it's price).

So here i ask:

Mini-SD, how large are those available? I have 512 MB in the 3650 and it's almost full - i need that much AT LEAST.

Does the phone run the following applications: SmartMovie (any version), OGGplayer, Psiloc World-Clock PRO, WorldMate, FSCaller, SeleQ, Power Dictaphone?

Does it run s60 games..?

When i asked the vendor, he said "it is not compatible with Nokia apps, they will install but won't run and can not be removed". Yet i read here that at least some apps will run, and the above mentioned are what i NEED as basic. I depend on some of those for my work.

How large is the RAM in this phone? (3650 = 2.7 MB, 6600 = 11 MB, i am talking the amount of RAM available for user processes such as applications, not built-in phone memory).

How fast and what type is the CPU? (3650 and 6600 both ARM-9 at 104 MHz)

Does it have a strong vibration alarm? ( i use silent mode most of the time due to restrictions at my workplace)

How about connectivity with PC - is a cable available? I have IrDA and BT but both are a pain in the ass, at least with the 3650. Functions absolutely required: File transfer phone -> PC and PC -> phone. I don't need "sync" and all that stuff.

Finally - does it display a picture of the caller on the outer screen? I love that feature on my primary phone, a Sanyo SCP 550 CDMA clamshell with outer screen in colour too.

Please help me find answers before i make a decision (two weeks to go).

Kind regards.....

THanh

im sorry i cant answer those questions. but since this is an old topic, i wonder wheter u bought that phone x700....
and? does it do all the things u asked? i want to know 2 because i was planning in buying the panasonic x700 or the nokia 6260 both are clamshell symbian...

Hello 😊

Yes it is indeed a VERY old thread.... well, i went for the Nokia 6600 and a 1-GB MMC card too. I decided that rather hurriedly shortly after i put this thread here and nobody replied - i wanted to stop being angry at my actually innocent phone for "Memory Full" issues, so i went to MBK and looked for a deal - well, one of the sellers was so nice and almost traded my 3650 against the 6600, i only paid 500 Baht more (equals roughly 12 us$) for the second-hand phone and i also changed the cover to a pitch-black one... lovely.

As expected, no more memory problems, EVER since, just a few other issues (heck it's a Symbian and those without any errors would be like Pizza without topping), it runs N-Gage games, with the 1-gig-MMC i have several full length movies on it, 100's of mp3 songs etc, a good 50 games and all sort of apps and that phone - it's just amazing.

However somewhat later i got to actually test a Panasonic X700 and was happy that i did NOT buy it. It is a very nice phone and look-wise certainly beats any other Symbian. However - it seems like it's got a 25 MHz CPU - needs an hour to fully boot and the menu reacts in minutes too, rather than seconds. Yes, it DOES run all Symbian apps and the first vendor just had no clue at all. It's Symbian 7.0 which does support themes. However if i need a full minute to take a picture from the standby screen - no thanks. (it took roughly that long for the camera app to load).

About the 6260 - be advised to read around, there are various threads regarding that one, and i don't want to duplicate my own stuff - my boyfriend got one, and it''s the worst phone either of us ever owned, ONLY because of gazillions of bugs in the software and Nokia's total inability to get an upgrade done (in the meantime three newer software versions available, everywhere EXCEPT here in Thailand!)

Kind regards......

your Thanh

The Sendo X2 (nice and slim and light) will be out soon. Not a clamshell, but small, like the X800. Will come in different colours too.
