Opera Browser Problem

when I log on to the web via O2 a window opens and O2 inform me that Im using an old version of Opera and need to update it. A link is provide but does not work. If I switch off java I can bypass this and browse all around O2 but I cant go anywhwre else eg not to google not to opera etc etc. I have installed a program which provides UK airport arrival/departure info and this works fine - I guess because iit dosnt use the browser. I have been to the Opera site on my PC and have downloaded a current version of Opera for mobiles as a sis file. However Opera says before installing this uninstall the earlier version on your phone. I cant find anyway of doing this in Programme manager - it only lets you delete applications the user has previously installed and Sendo PC connect tells you in the help file that you cant delete files in Browse. So does anyone no a way round this problem of removing preinstalled files specifically Opera?
