Would you by chance have an aftermarket faceplate? Those can cause earpiece volume problems.

The solution is simple. If you're trying to watch movies, or listen to mp3, when you put the earpiece/handsfree in the phone, the sound continues to come from the phone by itself, and a half of it comes from the earpiece.
I was mad, and i've found a way to fix it. Unplug the cord of the earpiece from the phone, but not to it's fully unplugged state, just a little, then back in. Move it inside/outside sometimes - it's a little tricky, but soon you'll manage to trick the phone, and all the volume will come from the earpiece - full and nice volume level. This can't damage your phone in any way.

What i mean is the handset's earpeace speaker... because sometimes it is loud and sometimes it is soft!

Well, as I asked, do you have an aftermarket faceplate?

I think it is natural for the 36xx series. I have an original nokia panel but still face the same problem.

its very irritating

I've had 2 3650s and neither had a soft volume problem. Sure, calls to different people weren't always at the same volume, but I never found the volume too soft. So unless there is something wrong with the phone, the issue I was looking into is whether the foam rubber washer between the faceplate and body is the problem. The 3650 OEM faceplate has a little washer around the earpiece hole. This washer mates up against the body speaker, channeling the sound. Since the washer is attached to the faceplate, when you change faceplates, the new one may not have this little washer. I peeled mine off the OEM faceplate and glued it to the phone body. That way, no matter which faceplate I get, I know I will have a good sound channeling effect. It is also possible that the foam washer on the OEM faceplate somehow fell off or got wedged, reducing the sound output. I'd suggest looking there as a start.

Hmmm.. that's really baffling since as I said both of my 3650s were fine. Most of the time I have volume set to about 5 out of 10 and it's fine. Is it possible that the firmware you have could cause this??

On the faceplate topic, I'd still check one more thing: remove the front cover and make a test call. Since the washer is normally stuck to the inside of the front cover, it's possible that it *looks* fine but when you put the cover on it somehow blocks some of the body earpiece hole.

Older phones face this problem. Nokia introduced a newer earpiece speaker later on. Just check at your nearest service center. I faced the same problem (i mentioned in an earlier quote) and they changed it for me
