Can you please help me decide whether to go for motrola e398 or sendo x. Has anybody had both the phones. I am about to buy one of these please help.

thanks Devarshi

If you just want a phone that plays MP3s I would go with the Motorola. For my choice I went with the Sendo because I wanted the extra functionality of being able to load programs and so forth. and didnt want to have another Windows device

hey thanx ,
that information has really helped. But Moto is cheaper nad has almost the same functions .like camera with flash, same size display, dual stereo speakers etc. so I am a bit confused .And then not many people are there areound with a sendo x .

think there was a posting around somewhere where I read the best way to describe main focus of the Sendo X is for the business user (and yes fun is thrown in there too). With the Sendo you are able to access the wide variety of series 60 apps out there. the E398 is primarily a fun phone. Its focus is for the MP3 player and being able to play J2ME games. best I know the majority of J2ME apps are games rather then business apps

I cant give a valid response to that as I havent heard how the E398 play mp3s. I know the Sendo is pretty damn good, the external speaker is quite loud though not stereo. you only get true stereo when you plug the head phones in. supposedly the E398 does have true external stereo output, you would have to listen to both to decide for yourself. Im happy with the way my sendo plays mp3s walked around the mall a few times with the head phones and mp3s playing no issue with sound quality.

A USer of this forum Mendocino has used motorola e398 and sendo x .(atleast that what it suggests according to the post)HE can be a better guide for this question.According to me sendo x has stereo speakers but as it doesnt supports mp3's and wav files are not stereo the output is not stereo and it will be same for motorola too.

The impression I get is that the X only has one internal speaker. If you play stereo audio the software or hardware converts it to mono. The headphone socket IS stereo, so plug in the headphones and you get true stereo audio.

As for playing mp3s I wouldn't bother with them. You should record/rip to Ogg Vorbis format and use OggPlay!

The speaker is mono, the headset stereo. Did you ever hear the motorola speaker? It is stereo and has amazing quality :icon14:

I would prefer the X though

Well i have a sendo x and believe u me its a top notch fone. i was considering getting that motorola but read reviews about it being shit on txting! something about there being a lag so like when u press a letter it takes a little longer to come up! obviously it wasnt much but it was noticeable!

also i got my sendo x from ebay although it was vodaphone selling it through ebay on auction so i got it brand new for 87 pounds with an additional 7 P&P.

Which i think was great! it came two days later! was well happy!

i recommend taking a look on ebay

Hey this means that motorola sounds better.BUt neways sendo rocks. But I have read on the website about the dual chamber acoustic system.how can it be mono?

secondly is the ringer loud enough and is it sweet enough to listen to?

hey motorola e680 rocks and is better than both sendo x and motorola e398.

The Motorola DOES have stereo speakers built in (not talking about the headset),
and the Sendo X does NOT!

The Motorola can NOT take video clips with the embedded camera, the
Sendo X CAN!

Switching songs (mp3) with the Sendo X takes AGES and is VERY ANNOYING!!!
Don't know with the Motorola, but can't be worse than the Sendo X.

Sound quality is good on the Sendo X, maybe lacking some bass. It is supposed
to be very good on the Motorola 398.

The Sendo X is using Symbian operating system (OS6.1), The Motorola is using
Linux. This means there is more software available for the Sendo X than the
Motorola.

The menu's on the Motorla are not said to be very intuitive, they are pretty good
on the Sendo X.

Hey Messus, switching songs with OggPlay takes about one second, you should give it a try!

The "dual acoustic system" is marketing-speak for having holes on both sides of the phone to let the audio come out evenly. The internal speaker isn't bad, and it's quite loud, but if you really want to listen to music you'd want to plug in some proper speakers or headphones.

I have tried it.

And I DON'T want to be forced to convert my MP3's to OGG before playing
them. And the version of OGG player that works on Sendo X/Symbian OS6.1 (v1.0)
can NOT play MP3, only OGG. (to my knowledge)

I have over 300Gb with MP3 and I bought an expensive 1Gb Ultra-II SD card
to use with my Sendo X, what a waste!!!!!

Ridicilously bad software from Sendo, even the Helix player starts playing
songs imediately (even from the memory card), but this player can not load
playlists, only single files..

So, I am SO looking forward to the Nokia 6680.

I agree it's ridiculously bad software from Sendo. The only thing you can do is get in touch with them and tell them that if they don't fix it you'll be buying Nokia phones in future.

On the other hand, if the Helix player can play mp3 on the X then it should be possible to make OggPlay handle them too. Previously I'd assumed that the code for playing mp3s on the X wasn't accessible to 3rd party developers. I'll have to look into that.

mart_is_good wrote:Messus: Ogg files are smaller than mp3 for the same quality so you can fit more on you memory card 😊

Yes, and so?? - Hey man thanks for your input, but...

I did not buy the Sendo X because it could play OGG files, I spent 420 on it
because it could play mp3 files.

Also I bought a very expensive 1Gb Ultra-II SD card to be able to store many and
transfer many mp3's fast back and forward from the phone through my USB 2.0
card reader. So I have enough space to store mp3's, and transfering them goes
fast. But the "smart"-phone takes ages to switch songs.

So now you suggest I sit down and spend extra time and convert my mp3's to
OGG's everytime I want to listen to music on my expensive peace of "smartphone"
just because it is not performing as it should.

Well, thanks, but no thanks, I am not going through that cumbersome procedure
every time, It's NOT gonna happen! Simple as that.

I only hope Sendo will reprogram their mp3-software so that it becomes as fast
as the latest Helix(Real)-player when opening mp3's.

Since I doubt very much that will happen, I will have to survive until the
Nokia 6680 arrives.

ME think me will just g owith motorola e680
. Has all the functions of sendo plus much more. ANd yes the speakers are not stereo in sendo x which is confirmed by sendo people .THe only damn thing is expansys doesnt have sendo in stock and myworldphone and plemix do not have motorola e680 in stock. draaaat !!!

Messus, you might also consider bugging the OggPlay team to add MP3 support to the S60 1.x version of OggPlay. I don't know much about the 6680 but from what I've seen on the web it's a new phone that hasn't even been announced by Nokia yet, so you could be in for a long wait....
