Folders gone!!!

9 replies · 3,182 views · Started 10 February 2005

I was exchanging some files from the MMC on my Nokia 6600 via the cardreader in my pc, and after that, my phone showed none of the folders i had made in my messages My Folders section... I had about 35 folders with a couple of thousand of messages, and they are still all there (i can see when i scan the memory of my MMC that the amount of messages is slightly larger than when i last scanned it, so the folders are still there, but they don't show anymore in My Folders)... Anyone know about this problem, and, more importantly, anybody know the solution???

Thanks!!!

When you used your pc did you make sure you had hidden and system files visable so you could copy those? One of them might have been left out of the transfer so the file detailing mail folders etc might be missing. Is this a new phone perhaps the important information was stored in the phone memory or have you told your new phone to store messages on mmc?

No, it's not a new phone, and i told it to store everything on the mmc... and all i did when i put my mmc in my card reader was copy a few pics from my pc to my mmc, that's all i did... :con?

U can try this:

Put again in reader, back up all content, format, back in phone, format again, back in reader, restore back up, bac in phone, hope will work..

I've tried backing up the MMC, but he refuses to copy a file called h<, it gives a syntax error and when i try to copy the file solo, it says it can't read the file...

Well, I tried the back-up, double format and restore procedure, but it didn't help... The h< I was talking about was supposedly 1,5 GB, on a 32 MB MMC, quite a trick... I could only delete it by formatting... But at the end of the day, I'm still facing the same problem... :s

You could have a corrupt mmc, but this h file sounds like it is not needed and causing some problem so maybe delete it? If you have it on your pc you can restore it again if needed.

Well, I couldn't copy the h<-file, it kept saying it couldn't read the file, so i deleted it when i formatted the mmc... but still no luck, even though i am 100% certain that none of my messages are gone, on my pc, if i open a file, i can read a text message i sent months ago, and there are 100's like that, it would just be nice to be able to read them back in my phone, that's why i created all them folders... :s

I know it doesn't help now, but in the future regular PC Suite backups will stop this kind of loss, or use a message saver type progra and export the text file created.
All forms of important digital data needs to be backed up no matter what platform it is on. I know a couple people who had trouble recently, one who didn't transfer their cameras card for a long time to their PC and lost a lot of photo's that couldn't be taken again. and another whose PC started to fail luckily we saved most of the files before it was too far gone. I know it can be tedious but we just need to get into a routine.
(I shall now stand down from my pulpit 😃 )

well, i always back up my stuff, with pc suite, the only problem was that i ran a back up the day i "lost" the folders, but i ran the back up after that fact, and didn't know it had happened, so... and i haven't lost any messages, they are still on the mmc, after i restored everything... so everything is still there, but: the folders are gone (not the content of the folders), but the messages that are still on the mmc and that date before this thing started, won't show anywhere on my phone, but they are still there on the mmc, that's why i simply don't get what's wrong... :s
