how can i let the notes on my calendar or to-do list remind me of it with a ring tone? i tried playing with it but couldnt figure it out..

I don't think the built-in apps will do what you want them to do.
Looks like we'll have to find a 3rd party app to do this ....
can be done in calender ... cant with to-do so far to my knowledge
in calender go to options, settings.
there u can set calender alarm tone.
