Lets do a little comparison to the A1000 then shall we?
Known specs of the A1010:
- 3G smartphone- A1000 supported
- UIQ interface- A1000 supported, however I have my fingers crossed that the new A1010 supports the themes of the P900's, as I think everyone has got bored of creating tracker skins.
- HTML browsing- A1000 supported
- Email- A1000 supported
- Touchscreen- A1000 supported
- Joystick- A1000 supported, although there is serious room for improvement on the A1000's joystick, how many times have you tried pressing up on the A1000's joystick and the phone thinks you have pressed in on the Joystick button? And by the looks of the A1010 photo the joystick has been made bigger with a bevel going into it, which would make it a lot easier to use when trying to hold the phone with one hand and would make it less as easy for your thumb to slip off the joystick.
- Videophone- A1000 supported
- Video capture- A1000 supported
- Video streaming- A1000 supported
- 2 Mega pixel camera- An improvement on the A1000, where users are actually forced to take photos with the VGA camera so that the pictures actually come out ok when its not mid day and your outside in the sunlight (which seems to be the only way of getting the best photo possible with the A1000's main cam)
- Video camera- A1000 supported
- 8x digital zoom- Compared to the 3 times zoom of the A1000 this is an improvement. Though the point of this relies a lot on the quality of the 2 Mega Pixel camera. If its as fuzzy as the A1000's 1.3 Mega Pixel cam under night mode, there is little point to have 8x digital zoom, so fingers crossed that Motorola have ironed out that crease with regards to the dodgy cam.
- Twin camera- Mmmm seen that before somewhere and I reckon the Front facing camera will still stick to the VGA standard thats present on the other Moto's due to the refresh rate and the upload times of 3G video when in a video call.
Apart from everything that has stayed the same in terms of software I think that the A1010 will easily be a favourite with owners of A1000's. I assume that many owners of the A1000 who having owned it for a few months now understand that the A1000 although it is a good UIQ phone still could be better.
Im going to be waiting patiently for it to come out over in the UK.
Another feature I wouldnt mind seeing on the A1010 is being able to remove the Transflash Card without removing the battery. What was the point of making the phone conserve space if you have to keep taking the phone apart to get to your Transflash card? Now with this im not sure on how you would implement a hot-swap transflash port, though just making the port to the side of the A1010's battery would mean no shut-downs and long awaiting start ups for just getting your pictures off quickly and transferring media.
