New Nokia 6680 pics

There aint a 6680 forum, so I thought this'd be the best place for it.

A German mobile mag has a few pics and info on the 6680, along with loads of other phones about to be shown at CeBit: http://mobile-review.com/forum2//forum/thread/22726/

Can't wait for the 6680. Couldn't give a shit about the second camera, but will definitely swap it for the 6630's pregnant-slag-after-10-kebabs look.

Also love the fact that it now has a proper separate joystick center button which will stop me getting pissed off at accidentally pressing the joystick in along with one of the directions. The new 3D UI sounds tasty too.

Aint too sure about the tiny number keys though...

Looks a bit like an SPV C500 to me. Like the 2 cameras and the joy stick.
Lets hope we can get some decent size mmc's for it on release

I doubt it's a joystick, it looks to be a standard directional pad with a separate centre button in the middle, same as on the outside of the 9300 communicator.

This will make it far more ergonomic than the all-in-one pad on the 6630, 6670, 7610 etc which makes it all too easy to accidentally press the centre key when trying to press one of the directions.

This pic has been floating about the net as well:

Mobile Review and some Czech site are claiming it shows that the 6680 won't have a hot swap slot; this is total shite. There are no memory card contacts or retention parts anywhere to be seen. I don't understand how professional mobile phone journalists can mistake a SIM card slot and battery/service contact points for an internal memory card slot.

Anyway, using that picture and Adobe Illustrator, and knowing the size of a SIM card and the way it slots into that hinge-type retainer, I can estimate that the size of the 6680 will be around 108 x 55 mm.

And looks like I guessed the dimensions spot on too

Edit: some more official pics here: http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,33325,00.html?appId=6680

Looks much better than the early prototype pics. No 3D menu or any kind of new UI evident.

there are only some differences between 6630 and 6680,only more colour display /and you eye is not able to see the difference between 65k and 262k colours/,and in the same resolution, only thje second camera, but the same Symbian version, memory and so on ... and the new 3D Menu will be available in Symbian 9.0 with the upgrade of Series 60 platform 3.0 version, which was announced ...

I only hope that it will have a 8-way direction pad.
That would make my day especially with vsun for those long waiting hours.btw will it have the ram issues that the 6630 is having?

yes, same ram issues... no more differences, only the second camera and 262k colour display, memory,OS version, battery and all other things will be the same like in 6630...

Yep, all confirmed.

So, no 6630i then eh Fidelko? 😉

The 6681 and 6682 were also announced, which are GSM-only versions of the 6680, with no front facing camera due to the lack of UMTS. The 6682 is a version for the American market. These will replace the 6670/6630 and cost less than the 6680.

All these handsets are expected to be available sometime in March, which is a change from the usual delays between announcement and availability. Time to sell your 6630's before the price plummets 😉

Keep kidding yourself!
I can count at least a copule of more interesting things besides the screen and 2 cameras and the "3D interface"
how about push to talk, IMS , built in flash,Xpressprint, sleeker design.... just to mention a few.
I'll trade my 6630 as soon it gets in the shops!

lol 😃 there is no 3D interface,as it looks like.... and design ? its nothin ginteresting... push to talk ? you can use it in 6630 as well, flash ? useless for long distances ... 😃

the directional button doesnt look as user friendly as the 6630.

I dont think the screen quility alone will be enough for me to consider getting this phone (dont use 3G so no need for two camera's)

Yep, as Fidelko said, there will be no new UI in the 6680.

The extra colour depth will make absolutely zero real world difference, unless the actual screen itself is of a higher quality, which is unlikely as the 6630 already has an excellent display.

Push to Talk is non existant over here in the UK, the "flash" is little more than a souped up LED quite useless for photography illumination (but I wouldn't mind one at all for seeing what I'm stumbling into in dodgy dark Hackney warehouses), Xpressprint is good if you really want to spend shitloads on photo printer ink making copies of iffy 1.3 megapixel phone pics, and I don't have a clue what IMS is.

I for one was looking forward to buying it based purely on its shape alone; the pregnant 6630 simply has too fat an arse for comfortable one handed text input.

But after having looked at the official specs and photos, I'm not so convinced. No user changeable covers means you're buggered if the thing goes flying (which unfortunately happens to me far too often), and the inexplicable increase in weight (the 6681/2 with no frontal camera only weigh 3g less) will just be a burden. The 6630 is already a bit on the porky side, the 133 grams of the 6680 is what phones used to weigh six years ago.

I think I'll sit this one out and wait for proper advances with the arrival of Symbian 9 + Series 60 3rd Edition based handsets with higher-res screens, new 3D/Flash based UI, proper syncing (Nokia have just done a licensing deal for Activesync from MS), hardware 3D acceleration, etc etc.

its a good idea to wait for Symbian 9.0 with the upgrade of Series 60 platform in 3., version 😉 it will bring some improvements, but not great ones 😃 i thik that the 6680 will be available only in 3G countries and for the GSM countries there ist the 6681... In my country i have to wait for 3G until 2006 and in that time there will be some other, and better phones /Nokia announced, that will use mini HDD,digital TV etc/.but before it comes, iam very happy with my 6630 and i am not able to use all the advantages and functioncs of this phone 🙄 so i will dont need a new one before the 3G starts... 😃

fannypad wrote:Yep, as Fidelko said, there will be no new UI in the 6680...

UI itself hasn't changed but there is very nice extra feature. 668X has some kind of home screen as can be seen in this picture.

EDIT:
it seems as this is only in 6680:
From Nokia 6680 page:

Display and User Interface
...
Active standby screen

This can't be found in 6681 page...

Doest really matter what one say....people that want to complain always find something to complain about , but facts still remain , this new phone still have a flash wich the 6630 doesnt but i agree , maybe it suck maybe it don't well just have to wait and see , the built in flash in the SE V800 DOES work in dark enveironment.
IMS well lets just say that IMS rocks....it is basically a video call be made during a normal call (one way only) like: your calling your friend and would like to show him something , then you dont have to hang up and initiate a new videocall , nooo you just slide down the cover on the back and start filming and the video will popup on the other side....this is IMS ie. videostreaming wich 6630 DOES NOT have.
And fact numbero uno the mayor diffenerence between them 2 well there are 2 cameras and that will always be one more than the 6630, whatever you guys try to kidyourself with....nd i don't care if you use your phone with videoconfeancing or not , i don't either but when i DO , i sure as hell will love my second camera......end of discussion. 😃

😃 its hard to compare these two devices, because the 6680 was just announced and we will see the situation after its market launch... and if you are talking about all these "extra" advantages in comparison with 6630 .. iam very intererested in the stadby time in 3G.... you will be very happy with two days and after some weeks will forsake all the extra features, like two cameras, videocalling and so on... 😃 😃 videostand is better, because you can charge your device during a videocall which is a real battery killer.... and 6680 in 3G without the second battery,or charger will be nightmare in the case of stadby time after frequently used videocalls 😃

In my country we have power outlets everywhere! ......even in the car actually,......... i think we invented it in 1935 its called 12v and so on......... 😊

Noone's kidding themselves, I'm well aware of how the 6630 compares to the 6680.

Again, I was planning on buying one as it is a more normal shape than my 6630, but changed my mind after seeing official pics and specs.

If you plan on using all those 3G features you mentioned, then the 6680 is indeed the right phone for you.

However, 3G has been available here for nigh on a couple of years and you can walk into a shop and buy a new NEC pay-as-you-go no contract 3G videophone for 25, use the 15 credit, get it unlocked, chuck the SIM card away and sell it for 20. I have loads of mates with 3G phones as the tariffs are so cheap. And I still to this day have had no compulsion whatsoever to even think of making a video call from any phone. I just can't see a use for it, nor can anyone I know.

3G is a laughing stock in this country, nobody gives a flying toss about videocalls, just the stupidly cheap tariffs and 25 pay-as-you-go phones to resell on ebay.

And Fidelko is right, simply being connected to UMTS base stations kills battery life, and with coverage being patchy the phone constantly switches between GSM and UMTS draining the battery even more. Some users on here were getting less than a day's battery life until they switched 3G off.

At the end of the day, UMTS is not mature enough yet, and for me the 6680 would be a worthless upgrade. If it had xpress-on covers then I'd get it.

and to think that the official nokia site states that 6630's battary life span for standby time is 11 days! 😮 that's something to laugh about! 😃

Init. Maybe by standby they mean sitting in a drawer with all calls barred.

Mind you, the other week I didn't have time to mess about with mine and it lasted for 5 whole days and nights, constantly on with about 15-20 minutes of calls and a few texts a day. No playing music or fannying around with apps.

That's with 3G off.

all the standby times are tested in laboratory conditions, not in real life...
😃 and there are many factors they can improve or kill you battery, like temperature and other ..
