i have an n-gage for an yr now and i want to flash it to the new firmware 4.03 how can i do that at home..and btw what is griffin box/other flashers??

Griffin et al are relatively expensive devices for flashing some phones. In addition to buying such a device, you need illegally distributed copies of firmware files and, of course, understanding on what do with both (if you don't know what you're doing, you may end up with a dead phone).

To get your phone flashed to a newer firmware release, the safest and cheapest way is to take it to an authorized Nokia service center and have them do it for you.

As u might know DCT 4 flashing is not for free, there is a few software solution (neleix, prodigy, griffin, cheap China, etc) but problem is that all of them desire dongle (box)..

All of mentioned soft/box solution is a little expensive, so maybe is better solution for u to go to nearest SC or maybe local unlocker (better).
