Freeware java dictionary for UIQ phones!

18 replies · 6,600 views · Started 15 February 2005

Some months ago I wrote a PersonalJava dictionary for my p800.
Now, I tested it on my new a1000, and it works fine!

Maybe this means that it can work on ANY symbian/uiq device. It would be nice!

If somebody of you is able to run jUIQdiz ( http://jumpjack.altervista.org ) on other devices than SonyEricsson p800 and Motorola a1000, please inform us in this thread: in this way, people will know about it, and I'll be able to update my site with new screenshots to these:

By th way, maybe also SCap , a freeware ScreenGrabber, runs on other uiq phones. If so, please also post here your screenshot!

Thanks a lot.

Bye,
Jumpjack

Hi,

Just to let you know, the Scap app works fine.

I dont know if you wrote jText and jZip, but thay too work fine on the A1000.

I think you misunderstood him. It's not that he made Scap, he made the PersonalJava dictionary. He posted the link to scap so that you can USE it to make screenshots for his site

I think you have misunderstood me.

I was just stating that Scap works fine on the A1000.

And that the apps jText and jZip, which were written for the p800 also work on the A1000.

Ok, I installed it on my A925. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up in the application list. Going in to c:\system\apps\diziop800 and clicking on diziop800.jar just gives the following error: "Cannot install. Invalid Manifest file."

Final verdict: it doesn't work on A925.

scap works great, though 😉

I heard about some "strange" tunings/settings required to run java apps on a925: did you succesfully install any other java application on your phone?

"Manifest file"....
I heard something about this... Is a .JAD file a manifest file? I read somewhere of an application to obtain JAD from JAR. Does anybody know it?

Yep, jText and jZip and Find the Place works just fine.

Yes, jad files are generally required when installing Java applications on the A92x.

cassioli wrote:Really strange. Jtext and jzip do not have any jad file. :frown:
Anywai, if it likes jad files... 😉 try downloading these files:

SIS installer
JAD file (created with JADWizard ( http://xmania.topcities.com/aqua/Jar2jad.htm )

Let me try to clear up some confusion. Personal Java applications do not need jad files. Such applications must be packaged as sis files to install on UIQ devices. For example jText and jZip are Personal Java apps and come packaged as sis files.

Applications written in Java MIDP version 2.0 can be installed directly as jar files (they don't need to be packaged as sis files). Applications written in Java MIDP version 1.0 need a jad file before they can be installed.

Basically you need to know which version of Java an application is written in. Consult the program's documentation. If not clear, contact the author.

Any idea about why my PersonalJava dictionary does not install on a920, but installs fine on p800 and a1000, although jText and jZip can be installed don a920? :frown:

Did you try by clicking on diziop800.app (or juiqdiz.app) in place of .jar ?

By the way, I think you can update your pages with "a1000 compatible" text for jText, jZip and jCompile! 😃

There is no app file in the diziop800 directory.

Well, trash that damned diziop800 😉 and try the new updated version, now named juiqdiz.

Ah, jUIQdiz works just fine. Icon shows up in the application list and all...

You mean, on a920 (or a925)? 😮 :icon14:
Can you post a screenshot? 😊

Thanks a lot!
I hoped the screenshot was quite different, but it is EXACTLY the same of a1000!
😮

Ok, thanks for the beta-testing. 😊

Any BenQ owner available for beta-testing, now? 😎
