Flaw in Zip Security? (from 3 Lib tips)

Hi All

I enjoyed Steve's 9500 Tips (http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/tips9500.htm) and liked the idea of a platform independant store for private data etc using secure zip files.
But having tried this I think there is a flaw in the process...

I created my personal info files, created a secure zip file and imported the files into the zip then deleted the originals.

Then tried updating one of the zipped files, but before ht zip file is updated the file is saved in the device as a temporary file. I went to the temp directory and opened the first file and there was my updated data without the need for a password!

Steve/Anyone -
Am I doing this right? Or is there anyway around having to delete the temporary files after editing a file from the secure zip?

Thanks
Jago

Do you mean this happens in your PC of in Nokia?

- I do not know if that has something to do with this odd phenomena: I encrypt my zipfile in PC, transport in to Nokia. Now I can open it in Nokia giving the proper password. But the unexpected thing is that it looks like it accepts and saves the changes I do in Nokia, even asking nicely if I want to save changes if I try to exit without first saving. But it never saves anything! That's why all the changes must be made in PC.

Msiivola -

I did the whole process on the Nokia 9500 - haven't transfered it to the PC for fun and games there yet!

When you exit and save the document you should return to the zip application (if you opened it fropm a zip file) where it will then prompt you to 'Update zip?' This has to happen to save the edited file back to the zip.

Although I have had similar problems when opening and editing a zipped MS Word 97 file and making changes to the styles used. After saving and updating the zip I re-open to find the styles the same as before?

I don't know whether this is something to do with the default template usd to open the file from the zip or the MS Word conversion process loosing the style information? Anyone else had trouble with styles and conversions?

Thanks
