Bluetooth Serial COM Port fails to set up for synchronisation

For the life of my i cant get this bluetooth Serial Port set up, necessary for Bluetooth Synchronisation.

I just bought a bluetooth dongle so that i can do bluetooth synchronisation - save having to plug that thing in, so i thought. The synchronisation works fine from the sync station, i just wanted to use bluetooth, for convenience!

I have XP Home with service pack XP SP2 installed so this should have the necessary software (together with Sony Ericsson PC Suite) shouldnt it?

However, although the device appear to pair properly and i can successfully transfer files to and from my PC, apparently i havnt got a Serial (COM) Port set up for bluetooth. This means i cant do bluetooth synchronisation.

I seem to have tried all the options under XP, using the "Connection Link", "Bluetooth devices" and "phone Monitor Options", but i just dont seem to be able to set the serial com port up.

I though XP SP2 together with the Sony Ericsson PC Suite had all the software, or do i need yet more third party software from the dongle manufacturer?

Do all bluetooth dongles have the same capabilities, ie able to file transfer as well as set up a serial port?

Anybody have any suggestions?

Neil

I have exactly the same problem. Computer & P910 are paired but there is no way to get the serial port work. SE Germany affirm that they never heard about this problem 😡 . But I have the problem on 2 PC in the company and on 2 laptops. All with different Bluetooth dongles...

I Have the same problem. I successfully sync'd my k700i and have re-installed and re-configured til my proverbial blue face showed up.

If ANYONE can help, I would be forever greatful.

Notes: Im getting a message saying: programme must be configured to COM 0
Also getting bluetooth connection error message.
Have uninstalled SE PC suite and MP monitor as they wern't helping.

Hello everybody i am new to this forum, so be gentle
i have manged to get bluetooth working on the p900 se
it took me four days but i have finally solved the problem, i had to work through evry possibe permiatation, and by a process of trial and error i have manged to get it working, first let me tell you what you will need

bluetooth USB adapter (belkin FT8XXXX)
SE PC suite 3.1
M-router

the Bluetooth adapter has it's own issues that belkin do now about and you have to work around this the problem is the WIN XP SP2,
to cut a long story short
you must create a virual COM serial port that m-router can talk to, this is what winxp does not like and the O/S tries to stop you using virtual ports, i will help anybody who need it but obvious it will take to long to go through here just drop me an email and i will get back to you.

Please do not use GNUBOX for p900 this small piece of software claims to solve the issue, but it will leave you with more questions than answers, it also changes the phones internal settings, this is not a good idea.

with this fix you will be able to Send and recive files via BT
Surf the Internet on your p900 using your home connection Wi-FI
use PC suite to it full potential, plus a host of other things like FTP , CORDLESS headset, HTTP, infacr the belkin USB BT device has got over 8 acativites that you can do Via BT.

Dont expect a magic number soloution, it will take time but it can be done,

i hope in the future microsoft Fix the Bluetooth issues with WIN XP
belkin also need to upgrade there firmware and software, how can you realease a product when you know it will not do what it says on the box.

(the longest journey starts with a single step)
(smoking will shorten your ciggarettes !)

BYE ALL

I know this is an old threadh, but I thought I'd add this here as reference for others who have similar problems.

Basically, if you run Windows Service Pack 3 and can't use the extras on your phone involving com and serial ports, you need to find the bluetooth service in XP and set it to be run by the local system account.
