SERIOUS mmc damage on 6630!

7 replies · 3,260 views · Started 19 February 2005

I have been using the OEM 64MB card that I got when I bought my 6630.

I use the 2.xx.xx software (11-11-04) and will upgrade to 3.45.11.3 soon.

TODAY, in the morning, I read a message i got, then left the phone, then after 10 minutes, i tried to open the message again, and POOOOOOOOH!!!

"MMC card cannot be read... I will use the Phone memory to save messages..."

I say, Ok, what the... I will reboot. I rebooted. Nothing new. CARD DOESN'T WORK.

I did NOTHING that could cause a damage, I read a new sms, and then after 10 minutes, I tried to read one, again.

THE RESULT:
* 6630 says there is NO CARD on the phone, although it's in. So I can't even format!
* Nikon Coolpix 2200 says the card is not formated (it could format my old N-gage card successfully when other attempts would fail), but it FAILS to format it!
* Nokia N-Gage says "card is destroyed", but when it's about to start formating it, it stops after half a second!
* Pc card Reader can't recognize the card, nothing is shown, and i CAN'T format it.

It's VERY serious, and the phone is NEW.
DOES ANYONE have any suggestions on that, please?

(I have been searching for a software -like Partition MANAGER 2005- to fix the MBR or something, the Demo version of Partition Manager 2005 CAN see the MMC card, although it can't read it. Though Fix MBR is Not enabled on Demo version. Any other software?)

Please, suggest.

ALSO, make FULL backups of your card. The phone is NEW and VERY WELL KEPT for it's first Week, and it managed to DESTROY MY CARD (i think...). It could happen to Anyone, I guess. :icon13: :icon13: :icon13:

What To Do?... i have data on that card. but EVEN if they get lost... I JUST want to FORMAT the card........

Thank you,
George.

If the phone is new, have you tried going back to the shop where you bought it, and ask for a replacement (card)?

Memory cards are VERY fragile components.
Be VERY careful with them...

My 256MB MMC on my N-gage was corrupted internally too.
These can sometimes only be manufacturing problems, even if you don't have any fault.

I bought my 6630 yesterday and I got the same error too :frown:

I took a picture and the phone said there's no card inserted

Though I was lucky enough, when i rebooted the phone, it picked the card
😊

ffffewww!!

What do u guys recommend, its just the 2nd day, should i return the card, or the fone or what???

return it ASAP
i got that ..WIll use phone memory..
and only fix was restart, or opening mmc doors..
return it..

the memory card uses a maximum of 3 volts any more and the chip will become friend as the memory transistor inside melt in effect so it could be that ur fone had a power surge

or

you had a virus of the sms
