I've completed some tests with a Nokia HDS-3 handsfree headset, Nokia HS-2R handsfree headset, the Skullcandy adapter, Sony MDR-EX71SL earbuds and Sony CD30 headphones.
The results are here:

Very interesting research. Thx.
When I read your story I see that I cannot do my Ipod away. ( it is an old 5 gieg and nearly on its last legs. I consider buying a new one or an Archos 100 gig player which is horribly expensive.)
I use noise reduction headphones from Sony when flying. I listen only classical music with a lot of dynamic in it and recorded with 192 kbits/sec
With I-Pod or pc portable it all works great.
What you are saying is: do not use the 9500 as a replacement for the I-pod.
I also am used to hook up my I-pod to HIFI installations on the different places where I stay. Dissappointing though that the 9500 cannot function for that purpose.

Maybe you can pretty soon (IF it's compatible with the 9500)
