9300/9500 as Modem via IRdA

6 replies · 2,760 views · Started 25 February 2005

Hi,

I just tried several hours to get any connection with my 9300 thru the Laptop via Infrared.

I have made these connections with any Sony, Ericsson and Siemens Mobile Phones with no problems.

But I have big problems with the Nokia 6230 and 9300: First I install the IRDA-Drivers and this is not the problem - installations is done with noi errors on Com Port 4

But it is not possible to get a connection thru the Internet (ERROR: Modem is not responding) and when I test the installed modem at the Modem/System Control the same error window appears.

Has anyone installed the modem driver succesfully to acces the Internet via CSD or GPRS? If yes, it would be great if you can write down the exact way to handle this.

Thanks a lot,

and sorry for my bad English (I am from Germany)

Bye

Klaus

Ok, this might sound stupid, but did you enable the Modem on your 9300 (there is a special program for it pre-installed in the Tools folder)

Hi,

no - it dont sounds stupid. I am a really idiot.

I have activated the InfraRed Communicatiion with the IR-Keypad (same when I make my Syncs with the Nokia Suite) and I have never seen the Modem Activation File in the Tools folder. So it seems that their are two different comunication protocols: one for Modem Connections and one for PC File Connections.

However, everything, incl. GPRS, is now working with the IRDA-Port of my Laptop -

many thanks to you,

Bye

Klaus

By the way: Bluetooth Connections are still not working - the pairing between the 9300 with my PC is not the problem - but I cant get a Modem oder PC File Connection (Bluetooth is not available at the Nokia Connection Manager - only Cable and IRDA). I think that is a problem of my Bluetooth Stick from the Germany Company AVM - I think they use an own Protocol which is not compatible to the WinXP-Nokia PC Suite Combination

well first u have to enable modem in the

Tools>> Modem and then activate

not from the shortcut key on the keyboard...

This was happening on mine as well but its now working on both cable and Bluetooth. It says connection time out because it cant find the access point to use. When dialling, use the number *99# and in the Modem Options in Control Panel on PC, type in your access point e.g. (payandgo.o2.co.uk) It should start connecting to GPRS

Usually this gives an error when u try dialling. It used to connect for 1second & then dis-connect??? right???

This is what i did.. i went to Phone & Modem settings in control panel & went properties of the Nokia 9500 BT Modem. Then i went to the advanced tab & put the following in the extra initializing commands....

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","www"

Now my Nokia 9500 works as a modem via BT. i'm sure this will work thru IR & Cable as well.
Instead of " www " you can put ur own GRPS ACCESS POINT NAME

HyPeR,

Interested in your suggestion, however, I don't have "Phone & Modem settings" in my Control Panel.
