This is my question today to Yellow Computing, the makers of YData
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Sirs,
You say:
"Already existing lists can be transferred from PC to your NOKIA Communicator (NOKIA 9500/9300) and can be imported into YData with the aid of the common CSV-Format."
In spite of your claim I have not found any way to import my CSV (Comma separated value file format) file (made by SmallBase) into YData. No way through menu "Export/Import" where I am able to set parameters but not import the actual file. What suffix should the CSV file have? Or what else to do?
Another problem is that when I try to write much text (I need over 256 char text fields) in a new database in text field, YDAta crashes every time. AND what is the worst thing: YData cannot be any more recovered after that. Opening YData datafile results immediately to crash again with Reason code: USER, and Reason number: 11.
I think you may lose potential customers due to lack of exact instructions, because many of us Communicator users are relatively advanced users with earlier databases, form which they must import the old data, and if it cannot be done, they abandon YDAta. That's why: wouldn't it be wise, for example, to have YData's complete manual downloadable, where the potential customer could see much more detailed way the real strengths and limitations? Now it is time consuming agonizing guesswork to see the limits of your program. For example: can text fields be longer than 256 chars? If not, the YDAta is not suitable for me.
Summary: the more you have information downloadable from your site, the less email questions to you, resulting to saving in time and effort both from the customer and - especially - from you.
