hi i have been intrested in getting a 6630 everythink about this phone is just what im looking for> i have been offered a brand new one which is locked on vodafone for 180 with no sim, so it is not yet possible for it to be unlocked but i will when it is possible i surpose because im a fan of 02. Will the dodgy vodaphone red branding be all over it and will themes be able to get rid of this.If i buy a normal vodafone pay as you go sim will this work fine because i dont know much about 3g.
thanks
Hey,
I'd say definetly get a 6630 if it's all that you want in a phone, but I'd say give the VodaFone branded one a miss.
A little time spent in this very forum will answer all your questions on VodaFone one's, with people spitting nails that unlock codes cannot be generated.
Personally I do not see why VodaFOne has not offered their customers the option to have a generic firmware flashed to their 6630's?
Yeah I know they want to keep their advertising, but if these guys are using VodaFone sims with year contracts I do not see the difference.
Reading here T Mobile branded one's are meant to be better, also do not rule out one's from Europe to.
I got mine end of last year from Italy, so it is a Tim branded unit, which is a provider over there. Apart from the odd restart it works very well & I am awaiting the new firmware flash to be ready at my local Nokia Service Centre.
Or, wait a bit longer for the newer Nokia's even.

The 'O2' Nokia 6630's are un-locked...I'd look into those...
the thing is that i can get a vodfone one for 180 but if i want it unlocked its 335 and this seems pointless and i cant afford it at the moment. The person whos selling it works with my dad at a certain company which is contrated by nokia for repair of there phones ( it think these phones are from all over eurpose because io know they have european offices) I havent spoke to him but i guess they would be able to flash the phone and i dont know much about this but if you flashed it and instaleld the normal nokia op system insted of the voda branded one. I know that voda uk dont hav the unlock code but do you rekon the repair company would have access to it.
Take a look on EBay...I'm sure you can get un-locked Nokia 6630's for around 200. Also I believe you have to get the handset unlocked before you can flash a generic firmware on it i.e. flashing a generic firmware on top of the Vodafone version will not un-lock the handset.
I rekon i will get it and just use a vodafone sim then, i mean it cant be that bad and then maybe in a while when code caculator can unlock 6630's i will unlock it. I mean if i didnt get a 6630 i would probely get a sharp 902 so that would be on vodafone so i think i will just try out vodaphone. He is letting me borrow it for a couple of days to decide if i want it aswell so im not commited.
Watch out for the Vodafone restrictions though e.g. MP3 as ringtones etc. Search for the forum for others...
yer i know but it dont really bother me coz me ngage what i use now ent lettin me use mp3 ringtones either for sum reason but i think i did when i first got it i leva eit on vibrate all the time as long as me symbian apps n stuff off me ngage work it will be ok.
Hey,
If your dad's friend works close to a Nokia repair centre see if they can flash the generic firmware to it, then you won't have any hassle.
Unlocked or locked the firmware will still be able to be written to it with the right equipment.
Just an idea, cheap phone, then a cheap flash = sorted.
