Hi,
I have allready preordered the N-6680 and I am so looking forward to it.
But, I have a question which I can't seem to find an answer for in any
of the previous threads in ths forum.
It seems like the N-6630 (and maybe even the N-6680) is using RealPlayer
for MP3 playback (Checked the user manuals). I have installed the latest
RealPlayer (Helix) on my Sendo X and it sure can playback MP3's, but
only 1 track at the time.
Does this mean that the N-6630/6680 can ONLY playback single tracks of MP3's??
If so, that is a dissapointment!! Of course there are 3'rd party software out there,
but I would expect these phones to have embedded a good MP3 playback
software (which handles multitaskin good), which also permits you to load whole
albums with multiple tracks, not only single tracks.
I have heard rumors that there will be a special (Music) version of the N-6680
which also supports playback of WMA, and will have some sort of Windows
Media Player embedded, can anyone confirm this??
Also the upcoming new stereo headset/remote from Nokia, HS-6;
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,69627,00.html
seem to only be compatible with the Nokia 6101, so then I know
I can't switch tracks with that remote on the N-6630/6680..
You can playback any number of tracks but you have to create a playlist first. You can create one that includes all the tracks you have saved.

Hmm...
Is the N-6630 using RealPlayer?? (I assume you're using a 6630 since the 6680 isn't released yet)..
If it is, what version is it? I thought the latest version was the Helix Player v1, and this player does not support playlists and multiple track playback...
It is possible to create track lists in Realplayer on the 6630
Ratkat wrote:It is possible to create track lists in Realplayer on the 6630
yes it is. you can create play list in 6630.
Does the music player in N6630 have "fast forward" and "rewind" functions??
=)juha
i found with my 6630 you can hit menu and go to other parts of the phone whilst playing but not into gallery again. For instance if i wanted to look at pictures while i had an album playing.
annoying but not the end of the world i spose i could always use image show thing
Just use OggPlay, same stereo output with better file management and a decent fast forward/rewind function (no need to keep tapping the button). Has nothing to do with the Gallery either, so you're free to browse pics etc 😉
Got to love Symbian multi-tasking, I regularly play Mega Drive games whilst listening to tunes on the tube.

PLEASE keep the recruiting to OGG Player out of this thread, I did not buy the Sendo X to play OGG files, and I do not buy the N-6680 to play OGG files, but MP3 files!!
I do NOT want to sit down and convert my collection of MP3's to OGG, that is a cumbersome process..
This thread is about how well the N-6680 can handle/playback of MP3's...
BTW!
Anybody can tell how long it takes to switch tracks/songs on the N-6630(6680)?
On my Sendo X it takes ages because the MP3 player is "buffering" the track
to ensure smooth playback.. (Well, this does not work very well)
And, how well does multitaskin work when playing MP3's on the N-6630(6680)??
I read that someone have problems browsing the image gallery, but how about other tasks? Such as typing an sms, browsing the web etc....
On my Sendo X multitasking does not work very well. Even when typing an sms the playback of MP3 get interrupted and stutters alot...
My opinion is, that if a smartphone should function as a capable MP3 player you should be able to switch tracks instantly, and multitasking should be working well!
Hiya,
Does OGG play support play-lists?
Thanks

Calm down, the MMF version of OggPlay can play MP3 and AAC as well as Ogg files 😉
It might be called OggPlay, but since buying a 128MB memory card I only use it for playing MP3's as it's simply a much better solution than the standard RealPlayer, or any other audio playback app for that matter.
The killer is the much quicker fast forward/reverse, just by continuously holding down a button (no more frantic pressing as with RealPlayer). It's simply the best MP3 player available for Series 60 devices.
As for multi-tasking, the extra CPU power of the 6630 ensures you can run any app and still have perfect simultaneous audio playback, even with Ogg files which consume more CPU cycles than MP3 😉
As I mentioned before, I play Mega Drive games on Picodrive whilst listening to MP3's with OggPlay. I've never experienced a single stutter. And I almost always use the phone for writing texts, playing other games etc at the same time as playing tunes, all without a problem.
The only thing that cannot be done is video capture. This pauses audio playback as the video recorder app takes over the sound functions whilst recording.
Switching to other tracks is instantaneous with the 6630. If it does indeed buffer the files, it does so without any kind of delay.
I can understand why you're having delay and multi-tasking problems with the Sendo X, it's notorious for being a slow phone. The 6630 is lightyears ahead in this respect.
Hope that helps 😉
hey is that biased comment of yours ? lol oggplay will stutter when u try to launch the gallery, unless u have nothing inside. 😉

just another vote for ogg player, miles better than realplayer and yes it does support mp3
GIVE IT A TRY! 😊
Just thought I should warn you if you don't already know, don't plan on having many full albums on your 6630. At the moment only 128mb memory card is available. If the 256mb card is ever released (expansys claims 16th March) it will cost about 80ish!
I bought the 6630 to replace my deceased mp3 player (RIP) relying on the fact that the Nokia website and Expansys website and the Symbian website all stated it took RS-MMC (up to 1GB availible). However it does not. It will only take Dual Voltage RS-MMC. Just thought someone should warn you if you were planning on buying a 6630 for mp3 functions (as I did). Quite a large setback for a media device
I was well miffed... especially as I bought a 512mb mini-SD card for only 32 on ebay 2 weeks ago.
Also, on my 6630 the playback of MP3 is notably hissy during silent parts.
I'm sure DV RS-MMC's will drop in price and eventually be released in larger sizes but by that time a newer model will be available.
As a fellow Symbian and mp3 addict I have noticed that other than the Sendo X and Sony Ericsson Pxxx no other readily available symbian devices will play mp3's through both headphones. I am trying to scrape enough cash together for a P910i (150 on ay tariff on the 02 website) as memory stick pro duo is large and cheap 😊 MP3's for everyone.
(PS. when dealing with small memory devices such as the 6630 it is well worth spending 5 minutes to convert an album to .ogg so I'm a hardcore oggplay fan)
-Mike
Thx for your input Mike,
I know the 6630/6680 uses DV RS MMC, but these will be available in larger sizes soon I hope!!!!
I can not believe Nokia is aiming for DV-RS-MMC unless these cards will be available in similar sizes as the competition; SD/mini-SD/RS-MMC.
I am sorry to hear that the quality of MP3 playback on the 6630 is experiencing "hissing" sounds, that is dissapointing!! 😞
Hope this problems is not present on the 6680, but I guess hardware-like, these two phones are very similar!!??
Switching songs on my Sendo X takes ages using the builtin MP3 player, still sound-quality is very good!!!! (maybe could use a little more bass)
Bought a 1Gb Ultra-II SD card for my Sendo X, wish I could use it on the N6680!!
Yea I reckon an MP3 at 192kbps on my 6630 actually sounds more hissy than an OGG at 64kbps on my old P800!
There is no equalizer either. Today I noticed that the 6630 has dropped from 80 on 25/month contract to $30 in the last 6 days so I think I shall return mine and maybe buy another for 30 😊
Either that OR buy another SPV C500!
I hated its awkwardness but I have a (cheap) 512mb mini-sd card for that which I will make a huge loss on if I sell it on ebay. Also, there is an EQ on the C500 mp3 player and it records amazing .AVI videos 😊
Messus, did you read my post? Just to re-iterate, OggPlay is an mp3 player too 😉
Divine: I stand corrected. I just put a load of image files on the phone and OggPlay did stutter a bit upon opening the gallery for the first time, but was fine when browsing the pics. I don't keep many images on my phone, so didn't notice this until now. Funny how it can emulate a Mega Drive/NES/whatever whilst playing mp3's without breaking sweat, but browse a few pics and it goes pear shaped.
Mike: What kind of headphones are you using with your 6630? I find that sound quality is very good (although the volume could go a bit higher), with no hissing or any other artefacts. I use a pair of in-ear type Sony EX71 earphones with an HS-3 headset converted to a 3.5mm jack.
256MB DV cards are very expensive at the moment because stock is so limited. ATP and Kingmax are now mass producing them, so it won't be long until they are being stocked everywhere and prices will settle down. Supply and demand init 😉

Read your post yes, and would like to try OGG player to play MP3's...
But first off all, if sound quality is bad (and low) on 6630/6680, then I might
reconsider buying the phone. I need to listen to the quality first at least..
And, 256Mb is by far not enough for me...
TomTom Mobile alone is gonna take up the 256Mb, so with apps and mp3's
I will need at least 1Gb...
some guy on ebay reckons he has 256mb in stock now!
here
I emailed him and he says he has got them direct from the supplier! Thats much cheaper than from expansys! Downside is that he's in Australia and I'm in Blackpool 😞
Think I might give it a go if I can sell my 512mb mini-sd card!
how come the box-shot looks like he's just written 'dual voltage' on himself? looks kinda iffy.

The sound quality is good, and not just by my account. Make sure you ditch the pathetic Nokia earphones and use a converted headset with a 3.5mm jack, stereo output and a decent pair of earphones.
Larger DV cards are on their way; ATP have said their 512MB cards will be available in March, and others will no doubt follow.
At the end of the day, only you know which phone is right for you. Make sure you have a good go on a real one before you buy.

OggPlay doesn't need playlists to play whole albums. If your audio ripper inserts album tags and track tags correctly then OggPlay will find them and play them in the right order. I'm currently using Audiograbber (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/) which does the job pretty well for ogg format. I haven't tried it with mp3 though.
If you want to play the tracks in a different order or mix tracks from different albums then you will need a playlist. The latest version of OggPlay does support playlists, but it's not officially released yet.
There's an unofficial version you can try here:
http://home1.stofanet.dk/hvaba/OggPlay/
1.6.3 doesnt support playlists?
By "playlists" I mean .m3u files. No version 1.6.3 doesn't support them. 1.6.4 does.
The 6680 I have seen does not rely on Real Player for MP3 playback, there was a dedicated program (I think, I saw quite a few new handsets recently!).
Either way another thumbs up for OggPlay from me too.
and yes defintely more RS-MMC DV cards on the way in bigger sizes.
I'm a big ogg fan!!
the best thing about ogg player is that it will autoplay on launch, so set it to 'random play' and assign it to a softkey - then your one click away from listening to your music 😮)
.MP3's sound great in my opinion - I've re-recorded my files to 64kbps and for me they sound fine and i've load of tracks on my phone.
For those who say 'i dont want to rerecord all my files' then just use dbpoweramp - you can just point it at your music folder and away it goes - how hard is that??
Rgds

Why dont't u try Motorola A1000 with already available 256 MB T-Flash card?
Or maybe can try Motorola E680 that equipped with 312MHz Intel XScale CPU , 2.5" 65K LCD that can have multiple playlists, FF/REV, Random/Shuffle/Repeat, MP3/RA/WAV/MIDI playback. And not to be left out, it can play "Full 2.5" Horizontal Screen by a screen touch" MP4/RM/RMVB movie files too 😊 :icon14:
Fyi, E680 supports MP3, WMA, RealAudio, MIDI, WAV, AAC and AMR file format playback.
