6630 > Try to remove operator settings (TIM, Italian)

32 replies · 9,757 views · Started 03 March 2005

Hi 😊
I've biught a 6630 desimlocked, but I'd like to remove Op. custom settings...
I've read a trick for the Vodafone one on this forum ("Remove Operator Settings"😉, but I dont have this option in the menu...
Does some1 know how to solve my problem ?
Thx a lot 😊

Boh? Anch'io Ho un 6630 Brandizzato Tim e Forse Credo Basterebbe Aggiornarlo con la versione normale e non quella Brandizzata cmq non so se funziona.........

Mmmmm I don't understand sorry 😞
Can you explain in English ?

Hey,

I to have an Italia TIM 6630 that I brought back in November. To be honest with you I haven't really seen much that gets in the way with this version, not if we compare it to the likes of a VodFone branded 6630.

Anyway back to your question, the only way is to get the phone's firmware upgraded with a generic version. I am assuming you have the same version firmware as me at V2.39.1 (I think) and there is now a version V3.4.xx.
I am going to have this flash done to mine as soon as I can & this will get rid of the branding.
To do this you need to go to an authorised Nokia Service Centre who have the right equipment to do it, also as the phone is in warrenty if shouldn't cost you anything.

Ian

P.S. Using Googles language tool he said this :-

Boh? Anch' I Have 6630 Brandizzato Tim and Forse Creed Would be enough To modernize it with the normal version and that Brandizzata cmq I do not know if it works.........

Well here's the matter :
I've already done an upgrade to 3.45.113 in a Nokia Service Center. But this upgrade was apparently designed for the TIM package, and I still have the operator customizations.
I phone few Nokia Service Center, and they told me it was impossible to flash an operator package with a generic firmware... I'm sure it's wrong, but I don't know how to find a center that will do that for me... I'm in France, and I tried to mail nokia about my problem... I hope they'll answer quickly to solve my problem...
However, I'll try to phone other Nokia Service Center... I hope I'll find someone able to do that...
Can I do it by myself ?
I saw that upgrades for the 6630 used a DKU2 USB cable.. it's the one nokia provides with their phone...
So I "just" need Phoenix (latest version) and the firmware... But in this case I risk to crash definitly my phone ?? Yes or no ? And what's the latest version of Phoenix ? And last: where to find the generic firmware for the 6630 😞

Hey,

Ah, you've already been upgraded. It wasn't a TIM firmware perhaps put back on it? Unfortunately I haven't had mine done yet so cannot comment about what happens to much, but when I do I'll let you know.

As for firmware flashing yourself it's a little more involved from what I hear and a Phoenix Flasher is a unit that connects PC to phone. They can be brought for about 100 gbp's from what I've read and that is the easy part.
However it's the firmware, which in reality isn't even supposed to be in the hands of the general public, which would be your problem. Also as it's not supposed to be public they don't like talking about it on this forum so I'm gonna stop.

Personally to save any hassle I wouldn't even bother, as if you even found the firmware on the net you wouldn't know how good it is until you flashed it to your phone. Then if it didn't work you'd still have to go to Nokia to get it fixed.

To my knowledge you can have any firmware you like on your phone, they are all the same internally just have different software.
But, the only restrictions I know of are that most Service Centre's will only flash a branded phone with the same brand upgrade.

Ian

Yeah and it's exactly my pb...
I've done he upgrade to 3.45.113, but suppose it's a branded update, cause I still have menu restrictions (on my TIM, for exemple, i still cant choose between 2G & 3G...)...
Well i've asked several nokia care center, who told me they couldnt flash with a generic firmware.. because the phoenix program works by himself.. ie it automaticly detect the origine of the phone (country, branded or not, ...) with IMEI, and apply the firmware needed... so they cant choose the firmware...
But i'm sure theres a way to force phoenix S/W to load the generic firmware...
But they don't want to... I should find a good lie to force them to flash it with the generic f/w but i dont know what to tell them...
rrrr ! im fed up with nokia's marketting policy...
If some1 has an idea 😞

I'm a bit of a newbie to this but as far as I understand the codes for unlocking/unbranding Nokia 6630 has not yet been relased (I have no idea when or how this will be done).

The 6630 (and 6680/81) has a new "code-standard" for unlocking and therefore the old codes does not work.

Ive been in contact with a store in Stockholm that performs unlocking/unbranding of phones and they told me its just a matter of time before these codes will be available.

My guess is you will be able to get rid of your operator specific settings in a month or two.

Regards
Gurra

Unbranding has nothing to do with unlocking. Operator customisations are coded within the firmware, and flashing the phone with a generic version will result in an unbranded handset. This does not affect the network lock (or any other lock for that matter) in any way.

However, Nokia service centre policy is to always flash the handset with branded firmware corresponding to the network that it is locked to; i.e. for them to be able to unbrand the handset, the phone must be unlocked first. And as has been said, there is currently no unlock solution for the 6630.

You can, however, try asking in independent phone shops to see if they will flash it for you. All that's needed to flash the 6630 is a DKU-2 USB cable, a PKD-1 dongle (or a clone like Phoenix Black Box), and the appropriate version of the Nokia Phoenix service software, as well as the latest generic flash file. The 6630 is flashed via DKU-2 cable (ADL flashing), and the PKD-1 dongle is necessary for Nokia Phoenix to work.

Edit: Just read above that you've already had the phone flashed with branded firmware. Basically, there are two methods of flashing with Phoenix, one is as you described, the program grabs the latest firmware from a Nokia server which it deems appropriate for your phone, i.e. it will still be branded. The other is the normal method of specifying a file.

Coolice: the box needed to be able to flash the 6630 is a PBB, and they cost around 400 depending on where you buy. The firmware flash files and Nokia Phoenix software are freely available all over the net, the easiest place to find them is the various GSM forums.

I have all the necessary software and flash files, along with an official Nokia internal .pdf detailing how to flash the 6630 with a firmware file of your choice, but I have no plans to buy a PBB.

I got a branded and locked Vodafone phone in Ireland but vodafone swapped it for an unlocked one which was flashed with the Vodafone firmware.

I then took it to a Nokia Service centre in Madrid who flashed generic firmware on it for me. I told them I wanted Spanish as a language option on it so they had no problem.
You could try saying that you want a different language option to get them to do it for you. They agreed that it was pointless to flash the phone with Spanish Voda settings when I use Movistar in Spain.

Hi Fannypad 😊
I see u are present on a lot of forums over the web (dakku i think.. and others 😊)
U seems to know lot of thingd about the flashage... But I decided to give up about flashing it by myself.. I'm not gonna buy a PBB for just my 6630...
However, can u send me the generic firmware for the 6630 ? Coz I think i'm gonna try to go to the nearest gsm shop I know.. n not a nokia center, coz I tried to ask them different thingds, to force them to flash it with the generic f/w.. no way they disagree...
So i'm gona look for GSM shop equiped with PBB or PKD-1 dongle, and if they don't have the f/w i'll give it to them to flash.. for example...
So plz, can u send me your docs and f/w ? it would be pleasant xD
my mail is [email protected]...
N if u have the european firmware, with french language, it's the must you could offer me lol 😃

Because the phone is basicly unlocked, its only branded and all the restrictions TIM apply... dont care about them :\
Or however, if u dont want to send me the f/w, please send me the internal nokia note on how to flash with the f/w I want... because I think with that i could be able to "force" my service center to do it... they still tell me "its impossible !!" but I'm sure they're lying 😉
Thx a lot again 😊

I can send you the .pdf, but the firmware files are ~30MB each. Have a look round some of the popular GSM forums. Ahem 😉

Have recieved the PDF File, explaining how to upgrade a 6630 with the f/w of your choice using Phoenix Service Software.
I'm currently downloading the 4.35.111 firmware file (EURO Version, so it probably includes lot of languages), but I'd like to find the 3.45.113 unbranded 😉 (Or maybe 3.45.113 is only for branded and 3.45.11 for unbranded phone ??)

Now your only chance to flash the phone is to :
1- own a PBB (personally, i dont, and i'm not gonna buy 550 only for ONE 6630)
2- invent a VERY credible lie to make a service center flash your phone...
3- go to a unlock gsm shop equipped with a PBB, so that they could flash the phone with the firmware n instructions we own...

if someone as a VERY GOOD idea, let us know 😃

Firmware, docs, etc etc are avaible on my FTP @

Fannypad.. i've found the NAME of the last firmware unbranded for 6630 : RM-1_dp_v_5.04_MCUSW3.0445113_EURO.exe
But i'm unable to find it on the web... i'm currently DLing the 3.45.111.. the 113 cannot be found.. only @ melakamobile.net and you need to pay 80$/year to access the downloading section... So if you got this F/W, plz tell me and U/L it to my FTP, i'll give an access

I'll upload the files on the FTP as soon as i get them..

Mmmmm I have an enormous doubt now....
Even if I manage to find the latest f/w for 6630 (unbranded, v 3.45.113)... Will it be possible to flash my phone with it ? Coz ... I currently have the branded 6630 v3.45.113 (Tim-branded)... if i flash to the 3.45.113 (unbranded)... it will result on dead phone ? Or... I should downgrade to 2.39.129 and then flash to unbranded 3.45.113 ? Or, another solution, completely erase the ram with an erase file for 6630, and then flash to unbranded 3.45.113 ?
The best solution would be to flash from branded 3.45.113 to unbranded 3.45.113 without using erase file... but is it possible or will it result in a dead phone....
I'm sure you know fanny, or someone else 😃

I'm not totally familiar with the symbian OS but if it's like most others then there is no problem at all flashing to any firmware version you like. Just like your PC. I could put windows 95 in chinese straight on if I wanted. I'm pretty sure the flash has nothing to do with the "BIOS" equivalent on the phones so the phone will be able to understand all the instructions in any upgrade or downgrade. If it was like the bios then there may (or may not) be a necessity to flash in sequence or downgrade first but I would put money on it that its not the case.

Not exactly what I meant...
I just wanted to know If it was possible to flash directly from the branded 3.45.113 to the unbranded 3.45.113... Coz i know it's impossible to undergrade without erasing (i'm pretty sure of it..)

EDIT : Files actually on FTP :

PDF Guide : How to flash your 6630 with the firmware of your choice
6630 Erase File
Phoenix Installation : avoid the dongle research

Here it is ! I've found all RM-1 firmware, just ask me for the location.. I'm gonna take the EURO versions and put it on my FTP, will be done soon 😊
Then all you need is.. *just* (sigh) your PBB lol or to know someone who has one...
Or to be very creative and very good lier 😉

Erase what?
Your personal data will be gone but I'm sure that's not what you mean. The contents of the branded software will be gone completely and the unbranded will be there. No risk at all. If it's done right.
But anyway I'm sure you'll find someone in a service centre to do it for you. Put on the charm offensive and the world is yours..

Mufty: Nah, that aint the way it works. The erase file wipes the flash ROM, leaving the phone with no firmware.

The 6630 cannot be flashed with a firmware version older than what's already on the phone; well it can, but this renders the phone dead.

Canard: Good work, I like resourceful people 😉 As far as I am aware, flashing with an identical firmware version to the one already on the phone will be fine, branded or not. The only thing to consider in this case is the fact that only the latest versions of Phoenix are able to flash the 6630 with v3.45.111 and later. I am unsure of actual version numbers, but anything older than mid-February will not work and might result in a dead phone.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how you get on 😉

Thx Fanny 😊
Actually, I've found ALL the firmware needed, from package 1.0 RM-1 to 5.04, UNBRANDED, and EURO version...
But the problem is that I can't upload them on my FTP, well, not all of them...
Because some are 179 Mo (package 3.0 I think) and my FTP is the one my ISP provides me (1Go, but it doesn't allow more that 70 Mo/file)...
So if you want the URL for all thos firmware, just PM me and i'll give you full url/access to download them..
However, I'm gonna Upload all I can..
So check :
http://teamoneshot.free.fr/?d=Utilitaires/Portables%20Symbian%20Nokia%20S60/6630%20Flashing
I'll keep that up to date with all I can... And I hope it will help you...
Thx for the info.. I'll try to flash at a nokia shop by lying to the guy.. but if he doesn't want, then I'll go to an unlock shop, which own a PBB or someting like that..
I've already found Phoenix Latest version, so ... I've got ALL I need to flash excepted the PBB (and I'm not gonna buy one 😉)...
So If an unlock shop can do it for me, I give them the firmware, the Phoenix Soft, and the guide.. And let's go...
I keep you informed, mail me for info and details if you want 😊
[email protected]

We'll be the winner (lol) 😛

I have quite a lot of gigabytes on my server, no whatsoever limit actually. If you want to share the URL I can upload all at once. Easy enough.

I have already mirrored your distribution here

Oh, do someone have a link for Phoenix flash?

Ok for that, I sent you the f/w files URL via PM, if you can grab all the EURO versions 😉
(files are 1.0, 1.01, 1.02, 2.0, 2.01, 3.0, 4.0, 5.01, 5.02, 5.03, 5.04)

Share them on your FTP, now everyone will be able to find them easily.. because it was pretty hard to find them 😉

Actually, I have Phoenix A15 2004.24.7.55, suppose it's too old, but I have .77 update.. never tried to instal it, i'll try this afternoon after my school test... Physical sciences.. sigh ^^
If those versions of Phoenix work, I'll upload them to 😊

EDIT : I can't upgrade from my Phoenix A12 to .77 versions.. I'm gonna try to find the full .75 Installer, and then Upgrade to .76, then to .77...

Canard-WC wrote:Share them on your FTP, now everyone will be able to find them easily.. because it was pretty hard to find them 😉

Done, I don't know for how long the server is going to be up, so if you need those files, get them ASAP...

Only thing we need now is the Phoenix Service Software 2004.46.5.76 (or later) and we're all playing with our debranded Nokia 6630 (happily free from all that crappy operators settings).

Funnypad, here you mentioned you have Phoenix. Care to share? 😊

Will post phoenix_service_sw_2004_46_4_75.exe and phoenix_service_sw_2004_46_5_76_upd.exe on my webspace later this evening.

I actually found them myself and upped to the site. Problem is that the crack does not seem to be working with it... Grrrr 😡

ianosh6630 wrote:I actually found them myself and upped to the site. Problem is that the crack does not seem to be working with it... Grrrr 😡

Ok, I give up... I've got basically every version of the DK2WIN32.DLL in existance, and NONE works. All the software you need is on the FTP, if you need the proper DES Key 2 DLL that works with it, let me know...

I'm desperate and depressed now... :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

The problem is that even if Phoenix is successfully installed using the crack, it cannot be used for flashing. It simply does not work.

So, for flashing, a PKD-1/PBB is required. No two ways about it I'm afraid 😉
