No incoming text message alert

Hello,

When I recieve a new message (text/mms) no icon appear on my screen saver notifying me about this once the phone goes into power-save mode without having read the message; I'm only alerted of the message once I press a key and see the "home" screen.
Is this normal (this is my first Nokia)? I know the 6600 handles this correctly.

If it's of any use, my firmware version is 2.39.15

Thanks

yup problem with the firmware, this really pi$$ed me off too. My phone is currently in the process of a firmware upgrade (at carphonewarehouse who sent it off to nokia) so hopefully ill get a firmware which will resolve this.

ive got 2.39.151 on mine, is this version ok? i havent actually got to use the phone yet, still waiting for my sim to become active.

phone now active and im getting the same problem. Have you had yours back yet?

did it do any good?

I upgraded the fw to the latest version (3.51.13) and it works fine now.
Although it has another bug... no big deal though.

Thanks for all your replies.

no fair im still waiting for mine to come back! Whats this other bug you speak of?

When I receive a message and the phone switches to the screen saver, it immediately jumps right out of that mode to the previous screen (with the screen illuminated and all). Only on the second go does it stay with the screen saver.

I actually noticed that in the shop after the upgrade, and I mentioned it to the person there, but I have the latest version so there's nothing to do about it.

that sucks! O well ill see if mine comes back like that but it probably will :frown:

Maybe thats not a bug but a feature! If the icon just went onto the screensaver bar straight away, then you might not notice you have a message.

I doubt that very much: even the person at shop thought it was a bug, but like I said, we left it at that since he couldn't offer me a solution.
But he said he'd call me when they get the next version.

And while I'm at it, the latest version is 3.45.113 (the version number I posted earlier is incorrect).

My phone is Vodafone locked, if it's of any interest.

my nearest nokia athorised shop is in hastings so im plannning to make a trip down there this weekend. Just a couple of questions. Do you have to pay for have your firmware upgraded? and does it format the phone when you do it? (ie will i need to make a backup.

Also can they unlock the mp3 lock on voda?

Thanks

When you flash a new firmware version, all data in phone memory will be lost (so, move pictures, etc. to memory card, synch with PC, make backup).

Whether it costs or not depends. Under warranty, to fix a problem, a service center should not charge anything. Outside warranty they might. The actual operation itself takes a few minutes, but a service center may have a job queue, which means it might take a while to get the phone back - from hours to days depending on the place, their workload, etc.

my phone has been with carphonewarehouse for 11 days now and when i rang them up they said ring back in a week lol 🙄
