Some questions about WAP services and more..

I'm really new to all this so please bare with me. I am thinking about getting an N-Gage as alternative to a cell phone however I have some questions.

I want to be able to download java apps, games, and so forth onto my N-Gage via the web with this: http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php and others. Can I do this?

I realize that I need a WAP service provider, and see that I can get a deal with T-Mobile and others. But does it cost me per download/upload to my N-Gage? Can anyone recemend any others?
How about surfing the web? Is the cost time based?

I assume I can surf the web and whatnot while I am away from a network connection correct? Via a cell tower etc..

Lastly if I understand this all correctly, the N-Gage is just like a cell phone. In other words I can run apps designed for cell phones (java) right? I don't see why not, but I just want to make sure. I am a java developer, and thought that N-Gage offered the best deal for overall development/testing.

I think that about covers it.

Thanks for your time.

Jester yes u can download almost anything onto your ngage

it costs you with the amount of data u send and receive and it is not time-based..

with GPRS on ur ngage u can surf the net anytime u want

the ngage is a smartphone.. its powered by symbian OS which lets it run java and .sis files..

hope i've helped.

Thanks for the info 😉 I am also curious about firmeware upgrades. Is it possible to later upgrade the firmware to support newer versions of Java, and perhaps a newer OS? Or are these things installed on the N-Gage like on a hard drive?

No unfortunately you cannot.
Nokia has kept the QD at Symbian OS 1 for backward compatibility with the original Ngage, and it is highly unlikely later firmware updates will switch to OS 2.
