MMC questions.

I did have a quick search around the forum for this information but I would just like a couple of things clarified please. I have a 6600 which I bought off of a friend after my previous phone was stolen, I formatted it using the hard reset 3 key thingy and now I'm getting the MMC password request which I don't know and nor does my friend. So..

Will buying a new MMC sort this problem out, would inserting a new MMC create a new mmcstore file? I was probably going to upgrade it anyway.

Is it possible to use someone else's mmcstore file? If so, what file extension does the file have as I would have to create it on the computer then IR it over, AND.. *breathes* how can I access the data from my messages with a program such as fexplorer? Whenever I try and access a file from IR inbox which isn't a jar or sis file it just says unknown file format.

Thanks for all your help.

Rob.

The mmcstore file has no extension. It has to be the original one that got created when a password was set for the memory card (= it can't be copied from another phone or recreated with any magic). If you have forgotten the memory card password and lost the mmcstore file due to reformatting, there is no practical (or economical) way to recover the memory card contents.

So, buy a new card and throw the old one away.

Sorry to seem stupid but I want to make sure before I spend my money; A new card will definatly work?

Thanks again btw.

Rob

A new card should work, all right. A brand-name card (TEC, ATP, SanDisk, Kingston, etc.) is probably a safer bet than an unbranded no-name card.

Ok. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated, can't wait to get this phone running, my life seems to fall apart without my mobile (sad, I know).

Am I right to say,... why not break the MMC password?! Instead of spending money to buy another new MMC?

How would I go about doing that then? I wanted to upgrade anyway, but I'm sure everyone having the same problem as me would like to know..
