I just spoke to Expansys over the phone and I was told that US (GSM850) version of both 9300 and 9500 is permanently DISCONTINUED. WHAT A SAD DAY 😞
So does confirm Expansys web site:

I guess I just never will be able to use it because no other signal but GSM 850 is available here.
That how does dream die 😞
Yes, USA is not going to release any communicators, BUT you can buy the regular European version and it should work just as fine, I have the Nokia 9500 GSM 900/1800/1900 and it works perfectly with T-Mobile USA.
There is a problem with the US Mobile phone market, the problem is Operators like T-Mobile, and Cingular, compete to release products at low prices and in order to achieve that they only release cheap phones that would sell easily, and every now an then they release expensive products but after they prove successful in other countries, hence the long delay. And since there are no SIM free phones being sold in America, Nokia USA is forced to only import what is requested by the operators.
So for us American residents, we have to make good friends with ebay.

I wish I could follow your advice and buy European model, but due to the Cingular's (Formally AT&T) "Raising the Bar" they have raised the signal only for GSM 850 here where I live and removed GSM 1900 tower. No other GSM here like 900/1800/1900. My area is a big dead spot of GSM 1900. So as I said before it is very sad day for me, Nokia and the Cingular.
That I think this is the price to be living is some obscure and the list advanced in mobile technology parts of the world like Silicon Valley. I can throw a stone and hit Intel, Yahoo, eBay and Cisco offices in one shot, yet I cannot get more then one GSM bar on my damn cell phone!
