Converting mp3 to play as ringtone on Vodafone Uk

Hi everyone, great site!!!!!! I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to convert my mp3's to aac or awb(think that is right name) so that I can use them as ringtones on my 6630. I have tried to use itunes, but as soon as I transfer them to the phone, they seem to convert back to mp3.

Many thanks in advance

Goto http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html and download the Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0. This will allow you to convert mp3s to AMR format (.awb), that can be used to play as ring tones. Very usefull to get round the Vodafone Money Making schemes. This will also convert video clips etc.

Thanks for your reply, I have downloaded ogg player at the moment managed to put 6 cds on a 128mb memory card with video and photo's too. :icon14:

Hi all.. I recently got my 6630 and the first thing i did was took my favorite MP3 and used MP3 Splitter(Google it!) and later transferred it to DV RS MMC card(64Mb).. The MP3 tone/clip is around 400KB and i can use it as My ring tone by going to Profiles settings.. My Questions is what willbe the Advantage of using Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0 here to convert the MP3 to .awb Format?

Also, how much Quality willbe lost using ogg player to convert my mp3 files to .ogg format?

thanks 😊

There is no advantage, in fact quite the opposite. You will be making your file sound like complete and utter arsewank. Stick to mp3 😉

About Ogg, converting from one lossy format to another will always degrade the output to a certain extent, but I convert my mp3s to 64Kbit/s .ogg files and the quality is good. Then again, the only stuff I play on the phone is old hardcore tape rips so the quality issue is a bit moot.

For the best results, encode straight from raw PCM WAV format (i.e. rip a CD straight to Ogg).

For some odd reason I had the desire to listen to c64 tunes on a 6630 😮 and the Symbian Sidplayer doesn't work ..

I discovered SIDPLAY2 (Freeware) for Windows and that encodes SID files to PCM WAV and I convert these to ogg as Fannypad says ... they are crisp as anything 😊

Oggplayer 1.6.4 works ok too
