Minor SMS Problem

9 replies · 3,980 views · Started 26 December 2001

I formatted my device recently, but not all the files were deleted. After reinstalling everything, I noticed that an SMS account exists, but when I try editing this account, it says "Not found". I cannot delete it either, nor can I create a new SMS account, as one already exists and I do not get that option.

The conclusion I have come to is during my formatting the file which contains the list of all the accounts (Mail, SMS, Sync Account) was not deleted, while the actual SMS account file was. Could anyone help me by telling me which file is the one which contains the list so that I can delete it, or by letting me know of another solution.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all!

go to messaging
click Shift+Ctrl+X
and change the momery in use to memory card instead..
maybe that's the problem..

Hi , i faced the same problem before and it was a real pain in the a$$ , but don't be afraid it is so easy to fix .
you are missing certain files found under
systems/mail
These files are in the form of numbers , ex 0001000.
All you have to do is find a second N9210 and transfer these files through infra red and everything will work again.

HK, thanks for your comment. I have checked in file manager and found some files in my System>Mail directory, namely
00001000
0010006a
0010006b
0010006c
Index

If you think that there should be more files, would it be possible for you to email them to me? I would greatly appreciate it as I am overseas at the moment and I don't know anyone with a communicator here.

I've got
00001000
00100000
00100001
001000e7
001000e8
Index

in mine, hows about trying deleting the lot and the SMS program should start afresh?

Well, Flipside, I must congratulate you - Your method worked. I backed up first then deleted all of the files except "Index", which could not be deleted in any way, so I created a blank one in my backup archives and then restored the file. Like you suggested, the program started fresh, created new files and a new "Index". I then created an SMS and FAX account (by the way, my Fax account had the same problem). Finally I restored everything I had deleted, including the old "Index" in order to get my emails back. Now it works perfectly.

One thing I have learned Index is the file that contains a list of accounts, emails, faxes and smss. The actual accounts and messages are stored in the other files, eg. 00001000. Index just serves as a blueprint as to where all of the Messaging items are. The attachments to emails are also here, saved in subfolders.

Thanks for your help!

No problems mate, I assumed that it must make these files on the fly after it is first run, so logic says erasing the directory contents should cause the program to get stressed and start from the beginning again User posted image
