I travel a lot. When I have WiFi access, clearly I want to WLAN access for both browsing the Web as well as downloading my POP e Mail.
When there is no WiFi, I have to use GPRS, with the respective global roaming charges.
Here is my problem: I am not able to set the 9500 to first try Easy WLAN and if none available either automatically GPRS or at least a pop-up menu offering alternative choices.
If there is no WLAN availabe, I get an error message to this extent, but no further options. I have to set the access method for both web browsing and e Mail manually and separately.
On otherwise such a fine piece of hard and software this does not seem right. I have tried all possible combinations of settings but have not found the solution.
Have I overlooked something? Best wishes to all!
I don't have english UI in my 9500, but i'll try to translate russian UI to english. 😊
To enable "a pop-up menu offering alternative choices" selects "Internet Settings" in Control Panel, select tab "Other" (or "Advanced" - last tab in panel) and set "Ask before connection" to "Yes". It's work for me.
Again. For POP3 mailbox you need set correct access point in service settings (first page, after login and password) - and change it manually. It's feature of Nokia's mail client :icon13:
Hi,
Just look under account settings > roaming.
Then Change connection automatically > yes.
Fill in your other acces points, for example : GPRS connection
Ready 😉 !

Kenny

Thank you both for responding. Please try this:
In Control Panel Messaging / e-mail / general I have set Internet access to Easy WLAN.
Roaming I have set "Ask for connection" to YES.
Roaming Second access is set to the GPRS account.
Now, when I go to Messaging / e Mail and select "Retrieve e-mail" IF THERE IS NO WLAN available or if I chose one that does not connect I get a message to that effect and the retrieve effort stops. It does not go to the GPRS connection automatically. I need to go back to the Control Panel / Messaging / eMail and change the settings manually.
I can always get it to work, but not automatically.
Also, I expected that the system checks: If I am logged onto the Web via WiFi, you would expect that the 9500 system would retrieve the e Mail via the WiFi connection and resort to GPRS only if no WiFi is available!
Of course, all this is only important for people who are on the road and need to connect via various methods all the time. GPRS can be quite costly when you travel outside your home country!
I much appreciate your efforts to share your experiences. Thanks and best wishes!
Ok.
My settings:
Roaming - Yes
Main connection - Easy WLAN (actually other WLAN profile, with WPA key and SSID, but i change it for correcr experiment)
Second - GPRS connection
My corporate WLAN uses WPA. Mail client try to connect to access point and ask me WPA key. Ii enter wrong WPA key and can't connect to WLAN. Then mail client chooses GPRS and grabs my messages from gmail mailbox.
All working fine.
Nokia 9500, firmware v04.44(01) 27-10-2004 RA-2
True, this works - I have exactly the same unit.
Now, what happens in your case if you try to retrieve eMail in a place where there is no WLAN available?
😉
Still setting up and finding my way around my 9500, but haven'y yet done anything on the e-mail side, so this thread is of interest to me.
However, in Control Panel > Messaging, I don't have an e-mail folder/option.
Can someone explain please?
In Messaging app - Shift + Ctrl +T
Yes mates. i also have the same problem. i dont have the phone. my friend have it .actually i dont give a FCUk. about their S.H.I.T phones. as they are making all the phones and using the same software and same design. and they are just cheating peoples. its 10,000 times better to purchase a POcket pc phone than this FCuking Communicator. with useless screen dimension. but still people like nokia.
OH. I Willl FCUK their all models. with same screen. and no model no order. Crap releases and same softwares. Just they are cheeters. they just change the colour of the body and then release the new model by placing simply an (i) and crazy ignorant people purchase them.
Huh.
Very sad Nikia, you will die soon. i wish
I smell a troll.
ruk_design,
Please stop spamming this forum with your ignorant BS, or you will be banned.

You are right. If no WLAN available - Easy WLAN stop download
:frown: Got it in bus in outskirts of Moscow 😊
Now, wouldn't it be nice if someone from Nokia would read this - it shouldn't be too difficult to improve the software so that we can choose our preferences for logging on, for instance 1) Easy WLAN 2) GPRS and to have an opition that this can be done automatically by the system or by the user selecting from a menu. The access method should be automatically the same for Web and eMail access (all different e mail accounts).
Apart from this I consider my 9500 to be the perfect solution for intensive travels.
