I just got a new 9500 which arrived with firmware version 4.44. From what I've read here it seems I won't be able to synch with MS Office 2003 (using Windows XP and SP2). And since I'm in the US it seems my chances of getting on the dance card for a firmware upgrade to 4.51 are just about zero. 😡 So I'm ready to pack it in and go home for the night. The phone's in the box, ready to go to FedEx. But before I leave could someone confirm that my understanding is correct? Or do I still have a hope? Thanks a lot.
Can 4.44 & Office Dance?

Oh no. That is exactly what I am planning to use XP SP2 and MS Outlook 2003 when I finaly get my hands on Nokia 9300. Do you know if Nokia 9300 is effected by this too? Is it only v 4.44?

I also have a 9300 with 4.53 firmware. Here there is no problem at all synching with MS Outlook 2003 and using Office 2003 with XP Pro and SP2. So why am I interested in the 9500, you're probably wondering? Well, the keyboard is much better than on the 9300 and then there's always the Wi-Fi. But right now the 9500 is only a concept for me, if the full interface with Office is not possible. Thanks for the reply.
If you have a 9300, I would suggest you return the 9500 and get another one with the newer firmware. I'm also stuck with the 4.44 firmware, and have installed OpenOffice.org so I can open files created with the 9500 and save them again so I can use them in Microsoft Office - in one word, FRUSTRATION.
But hopefully I'll upgrade the firmware on my trip to Europe or Dubai in the summer 😃

Thanks for the advice. This is very helpful. By the way, are you able to synch with Outlook 2003 under firmware 4.44?

I am still on V4.44 in UK. And v4.51 is out and available in theory except that none of the dealers appear to have yet received delivery of the adpater to connect the 9500 for reflashing and thus they cannot do the upgrades. Pretty ludicrous, Nokia.
However, whilst v4.44 is full of bugs and crashes constantly, I do not think there are major issues in converting Win Word or Excel docs to 9500. They convert automatically, and do open, BUT spreadsheets in particular lose much of their formatting - columnd widths, row heights etc, and it can be a real pain to rectify all that manually on a small screen. DOes anyone know if this is fixed under v4.51. (I assume v4.53 is a sub-variant for the US market?)

No, 4.53 is the firmware version all 9300s are shipped with. While the newest firmware version for the 9500 is 4.51. The 9300 and 9500 firmware differs slightly due to the cam and Wi-Fi in the 9500.

Thanks for that.
Purely for the purpose of informing those who might be interested (including Symbian/Nokia) some of the errors and crashes I had yesterday were:
Cuicoverui 101f8ddf
Cover Ui App
Error 90014
then:
Disk error - cannot complete write.
Retry or data will be lost.
I accepted Retry then:
NOTE
Out of Memory.
I was not using Note, nor was the application open on the task bar, nor was I trying to write to disk (unless the system was in background) and neither my COmmunicator nor MMC are anywhere near full. Both are nearly empty.
I only have one non-standard application installed at present, (since the phone is so flakey and is likely to have to be sent away or replaced!) and that is a trial version of Y-Data, and that was not in use either.
Later whilst browsing the web using WiFi through my PC, the browser obviously crashed with this error:
Web
E32User - CBase
Reason No: 42
And later the same day my 9500 just simply powered itself off and rebooted with no error messages, and I lost all my open files.
I suppose it will all get sorted out eventually, and I shall (probably) put up with it for a while as the WiFi browsing just outweighs all the downsides (even for me) at the moment.
Hmm, that doesn't sound good. You might have some corrupted file(s) in your system - have your tried a format? You say you lost all your open files when it rebooted itself... That shouldn't happen. What kind of files were lost?
I do not have any problem in syncing with Outlook 2003 - works great 😃
Yesterday I received official confirmation from Nokia Finland that
synchronization of e-mails (Office 2003, PC-Suite 6.41 and 9x00 with current FW releases) has problem which can not be fixed or worked around at this time. Support staff recommended to wait for the next version of PC-Suite...
btw. the thread id for the case is ID:1-8PDC0
