anyone got a date and store to get the memory card?
so when will the 512 or bigger dv rsmmc comes out??
they were supposed to be released by the end of this month..but i'm still waiting!
then an extra few months on top of that for the price of them to become reasonable on ebay (in comparison to the standard rs mmc's)
im holding out for the 512, that way ill use 256 for mp3s and 256 for other junk
i will be doing the same thing...i currently have a 256mb mp3player and so its not worth pumping only 256mb in the cell and carrying both around
All i can say to the memory card makers is HURRY 😡
I have it on good authority that 512 will be a couple of months yet and 1Gb will not happen for a long time. They are having real troubles fitting the dual voltage technology and the electronics for the memory into the small package.
Think about it, it took them ages to produce 1Gb RS-MMC in the 3V version and they are still limited. Bottom line is theres going to be a heafty wait
its a nightmare, I remember reading somewhere months ago that the "DV only compatible" is written into the software of the phone and I also remember someone suggesting that it was possible to write a program to allow standard RS-MMC's to work, I don't know if this was just someone who didn't know what they were talking about (not much unlike myself) or if this is actually feasible, I'd like to think it is as I own a 512 RS-MMC. I was one of the many who fell victim to the lack of information regarding the DV RS-MMC and went out and bought a standard card. Anyway I've never seen any other post or information regarding this writing of software, so for now I have to remain pessimistic and wait for those dammed 512mb DV's
It is a hardware thing, so no amount of software will make a 6630 or 6680 read 3.3V-only RS-MMC cards.
i thinnk its crap what nokia did....they should stick to regular MMC....that DV crap doesnt do crap...its suppose to save battery power...what a bunch of BS...

And you have any knowledge that it doesn't save power?
[B]where would u recomend buyin them from when they do come out? i dont like all these dodgy internet sites lol. of course ill look at ebay but what r like the main and trustworthy company to buy from? cheers 😊

Yes but then thats because its a 3G phone meaning the phone is powering two radios one for GSM and one for 3G. The phone is constalty monitoring both bands and also 3G in its nature requires on averge 5 base stations to every 3 used for GSM so the phone changes cell more often and because the bases operate at a lower power has to compoensate for this by higher power consumption. If you disable 3G you will find the battery will last longer.
Nokia have done everything possible to conserve power on the phone. The MMC slot is constalty powered so by halving the power to they card they have effectivly halfed the power usage by the MMC card. As we have never had a 6630 that operates at 3.3v its impossible to say what difference it has made to the battery life but I suspect that if they had stuck with normal cards like a lot of other 3g phone manafactueres and early smartphones you will be cursing because your phone would be lucky to see out the day.
If I lock the phone to GSM it easily outlasts my 6600 and before I went 3G I was getting 2-3 days so I would surmise that yes the lower voltage cards DO make some difference.
In our country, I mean in Russia...eaven in my hometown - Moscow...we don't even have 128 mb...only 64.....of DV-RS-MMC....we all are waiting for them....informers told us for cards to come only by the end of this month...but only 128 or 256....I think that's a crap!.... :frown:
that's crap, but it always has been a problem with the 6630's.
either you can buy 2 256's or wait for the 512's ...
